PostSubject: Very general workout question   Fri Nov 13, 2009 12:22 pm

Prompted by Arttie's thread. I think I now have a complete workout for the week. Currently I am on as much weight as I can do for 12 to 15 reps, which will change up later to heavy weights.

The question is, do we push beyond what we think we can handle, or just do the reps. Biblically, Paul would say we go beyond. While not about working out, I think that it could be applied in general to life. I Cor. 9:27 and the verses right before it.

I watched a Jay Cutler video where after his workout they said he was completely sapped. How should we feel after a workout if we've really done what we should?

You eventually want to get to the point you feel you are pushing to the absolute max you can. It takes time to get there. The trick is to lift smarter, not necessarily harder. Isolation of muscles, when you have developed to that level, is key. You can totally fatigue one body part and still be fine in the others.

I have had people come up to me and literally tell me, "I lift twice as hard and as long as you and you are bigger than me". Well, it's because I know HOW to lift and to focus on the areas I am working. Plus the perception that he is lifting harder than me is just that...perception. The amount of time spent in the gym is NOT a direct correlation to success in muscle growth, fat loss, etc. It is quality of time spent that matters.

If I send you what they have given me to work on, can you help me tweak it? That is if it needs tweaking.
