Tonya, you need to figure out how you can exercise despite the weather. Get a stationary bike, an elliptical walker, something. It's hard and you have obstacles but you need to do this now, it won't get easier. Also, can you get into a support group that can help and encourage you to be accountable. Brownies once in awhile isn't the problem, you need to make some lifestyle changes. I'm not trying to be harsh I want to see you suceed at this.
Sorry about the job, I will pray for that.

Dude do you want to know how long it's been since I've baked anything?

I didn't even bake anything at Christmas! LOL Ok I did made fudge but it had been since Christmas since I had baked anything and before that it had been since T-Day and then it was just a sugar free pie.

My diet is pretty much fine, it's my pancreas that isn't wanting to cooperate.

I'm not trying to be difficult or argumentative, but regarding this:

Quote:
...however much you're eating....or more likely what you're eating...is wrong/too much (for you).

You can't assume that I overeat or eat the wrong things. I really don't. I've been to a nutritionist and I follow what she told me to do, to a T pretty much. My whole family has bodies that stubbornly hang onto weight. My mom eats like a bird and goes to the Y three times a week religiously and still has weight that will not come off even after she lost 100 pounds in 10 years. It took her 10 years but she did it and has kept it off. BUT - it took 10 years. I am telling you the God's honest truth that I already eat healthy and I do watch my calories big time. You'd be very surprised despite my size - how healthful I cook and eat. I haven't been to a fast food restaurant in a week, and when I did it was Taco Bell........and it was because John & Tommy wanted to go. Before that I can't even remember how long it had been.

I normally don't eat any carbs at all for breakfast. I have two scrambled eggs and a piece of turkey ham or turkey sausage, and then some fruit and perhaps a 4 to 6 oz glass of milk (and I measure it). When I snack I usually have veggies or fruit. Sometimes I make a smoothie out of pineapple, ice and a little coconut milk. Nuts and avacadoes are my friends according to my doctor, despite their fat content. I never eat more than two starch exchanges at a time which would be two pieces of bread, and the bread I eat is very whole wheat, stone ground natural stuff.....I despise white bread and will go without bread before eating it. Most of the time I skip the bread and starches though.

For meals I make chicken, fish, lean pork or beef cuts, rice, and plenty of cooked, steamed or fresh veggies. We do a lot of stir fry.

On youth group nights I don't have more than two slices of pizza. I normally end up with my blood sugar going too low those nights because I'm so busy that I forget to eat.

I have an appointment set with an endocrinologist (Dr. Ossam Hussein in Pickerington) this month. He should be able to get me straightened out.

Meanwhile, I walked 2 1/2 miles Friday and another 2 today.

And I do have a Gazelle and several exercise tapes. But honestly I would rather walk 2 miles in 18 degree weather than tread away to nowhere on a stationary bike.

..........although my neighborhood isn't the greatest.

The past 3 times I've walked I've had "the boyz" checking me out like they knew me or something.........and I'm hoping there isn't a twin in my neighborhood who owes people drug money or something.

I got chased through the park by Muslims one day too, LOL! That was stupid.

John wants me to get a license to pack a piece soon.

Other than that I'm walking, walking, walking!

.........and will probably be adding some yoga soon too and maybe some belly dancing.......

You know what the problem is...it's that coconut milk!!! Nasty!!!

Seriously Tonya, I think some people are going to have a really hard time with weight loss. Sometimes it's just genetic sometimes it's an emotional state that leads to overeating.

You're doing the right things. Don't get discouraged. Sometimes it takes a long time(like 10 years in your mom's case). I think the longer it takes to lose weight the easier it is to keep it off.

Just hang in there. In all reality being healthy doesn't always mean being thin. Personally, I think overly thin women(supermodel types) look aweful. They look like I would break their spine with a good hug.

And sometimes we all need to complain or blow off steam. If you'r ehaving a hard time of it just come here and vent. And to those who think they have all the answers...you don't! Be helpful or be quiet.

BTW, have you ever had your Thyroid checked? If that is messed up it can cause a lot of problems. Sometimes weight gain and definately makes it hard to lose weight.

Tonya - this is a great goal - I'll keep you in prayer.

My sister started losing weight when she got divorced - she has lost about 50 lbs now. She wants to lose another 100lbs I think. . .

I went from being very active in college, to pretty sedentery - working on computers & not playing sports or anything. . . but with a military class coming up needed to get in shape. So in Dec I joined a gym and started working out & running. I've lost around 20 lbs. - and feel better. The gym habit is really easy to break - but I'm working on it. My girlfriend & I are working on getting there at 0430 so we both make it to work on time. . . I'll have to let you know how that goes! Wink

God bless!!!

Well I just weighed myself last night and I've gained 10 pounds. Something is all jacked up with my body. I know I have diabetes and I'm on insulin, but now I can't go to the Dr. to find out what's wrong (I was going to go to an endocrinologist - had the appointment scheduled and everything) because we don't have health insurance now that John got laid off.

I need to get something. I think I'm going to contact the American Diabetes Association and find out how they can help me.

And by the way it's more like 130 pounds I need to lose. :/

STRESS!!!!!! Looking at some of your other posts I would say that's a big part of the problem. I could tell you to relax and the weight will fall off but we all know it doesn't happen like that. You have a bunch of stuff working against you but you can still do it. You knew when you started trying to lose weight it wasn't going to be easy. What I would do is take out a piece of paper and list all of the contributing factors. I'll help...

Stress
Diabetes

The rest is up to you. The next step is to tackle them one at a time. Pick one thing you think needs the most attention and focus on fixing (or managing) that. When you get it under control, move on to the next one, and so on. Something I don't think was touched on yet is are you large framed or smal framed? That means do you have a large bone structure relative to your height? For example, someone who is 5 feet tall with an 8 inch wrist measurement has a LARGE bone structure and bones have weight and there's nothing you can do about that. What I am getting at is it just may not be healthy for you to weigh 130 lbs. Focus on what you see in the mirror. When you are happy with what you look like then who cares what you weigh.

No, no, no I don't want to WEIGH 130 lbs! I need to LOSE 130 lbs. The other day I weighed in at 285. I am 5' 6" and would say that I am large boned. I'm German and when I used to be 'skinny' as I call it (not fat), my hip bones stuck out so far that even when I lost weight I could never seem to go below a size 12 which is teetering on plus sized.

If I lost 130 lbs, I would be at 155 which would be just about perfect in fact a little bit still on the chunky side, which I think would be good.

I watched Biggest Loser tonight and teared up a bit. One girl's story was so inspiring. I heard that you can go on their website and try the same diet and exercise program and get support all for free, which is what I'm gonna do.

Smile

Thanks for all your positive comments and encouragement!

Keep 'em comin', I need it!

So I did some thinking and here are some more factors that could be contributing to it:

Unemployment causing us to have to go to a food pantry and take what we get (not being able to go to the store and pick out healthy stuff) and the food pantry always gives us a TON of junk food

Boredom

Wandering attention span

Things I work on during the week being mostly "sedentary" work (Ministry Planning, Sewing, Avon, Web Design).

The thing that really bothers me lately is that I've noticed that my son is starting to develop quite the paunch.

Now I know he just turned 23, but he is more like a teenager in a lot of ways, still, emotionally, etc. He pretty much is my shadow in life and does whatever I do. And tonight when I watched Biggest Loser there was a father and son on there and it really made me think about the fact that my lifestyle might be misleading Tommy.

We did make some guidelines though - XBox for no more than 2 hours a day, and NEW RULE he has to exercise equal to the amount of XBox that he does.

And mom has to do just as much exercise as he does.

This should get interesting.

His birthday was yesterday and I bought him a soccer ball and a baseball, and some fishing bobbers. I told him that John and I will go outside with him and play whatever he wants.

And this weekend it is going to be BEAUTIFUL here in Ohio!
