| Cleans have been kicking my butt! But I'm glad you got me back into them.
Deadlift day- THE moment of truth.
DL - 130 x 10......218 x 5.....288 x 3......338 x 1.....388 x 1.......428 x 1!!!! Power Cleans - 150 x 4.....Pull Ups x 11.
Woo!!!! 428 is an all-time PR for me!!! in 02 or early 03 I did 425 and that was the best. This rep was hard. But it went! I just got back from San Antonio at about 2:15 so I was worried about all that sitting and how that would affect things. All's well that ends well.
What I like about DL is that there's no question. No question about pause, bouncing, depth, height, racking, nothing. There's no way to cheat. Just pick it up or don't!! Now, every 3-4 weeks with my scheduled max days will be new territory! It's exciting!
I also desperately need to get my bench in gear. I need to get with my partner and really start hammering things. Now that I'm finally back from all of our traveling I have 15 weeks from TODAY to get things on track.
Soundtrack - Iron Maiden - Powerslave (Vinyl)

| Dude! You've got me pumped about doing cleans. I think they've been helping my DL. I'm going to more cleans and less DLing because everything I've read about has said some variation of (to DL more, DL less!!). One is supposed to do things that work the same muscle groups but without the over-training DLing leads to. _________________ Hey kid!

| Cleans are one of the big muscle group lifts that don't hurt my joints. I think they will improve your DL but mixing them in might be strange. I never liked doing them on the same day but don't do them on my bench or legs days. Hmmm. _________________ All our ways that seem so right Lay inside the ways of death All our trying and our denying Paupers and peasants, masters of jest. |

| I've been involving them all along but now I'm going to place more emphasis on them and other Olympic-type lifting. I'll still have a traditional heavy DL day every so often, but will do these and other things and see how things progress. _________________ Hey kid!

| Feel a cold or sinus infection coming on and didn't want to do this but decided to do it so that if I miss anything in the coming days it will only be Bench day.
Good Mornings......130 x 5.....150 x 5.....200 x 3.....220 x 2 Stiff Legged DL ......220 x 5......250 x 5.......270 x 3......300 x 2....
Didn't want to lift, glad I did. The best I felt all day was while I was training! Go figure..... _________________ Hey kid!

| I've got the boys doing deads this quarter so I took a stab. Ok, only 255x5 but I haven't done them in over 10 years so I sure wasn't going to kill myself. I'll take it slow but I was happy with it. _________________ All our ways that seem so right Lay inside the ways of death All our trying and our denying Paupers and peasants, masters of jest. |

| Yeah, that's great first time in 10 years!!!! I guarantee you it's the cleans doing that. They work essentially the same muscles, just the cleans are much more explosive and you can't handle as much weight with them. You'll be pulling 475+ in no time!!
Awesome that you're getting your boys into it. Things like Chess, Football, or...Powerlifting....have given many a troubled young man a taste of discipline and the chance to challenge himself. Maybe you could coach them and start a Powerlifting Club. _________________ Hey kid!

| Feeling much better today!
Deadlift day:
Warm up with cleans:
130 x 10.......155 x 5.......180 x 1 (then three "high pulls" to extend the set)
Conventional stance DL 180 x 10.....230 x 6......300 x 6....Pull Up x 5....Pull Ups w/ 10# x 5.....Pull Ups w/ 20# x 6
Done! Felt good. I haven't weighed myself but with the traveling and the relaxed eating while sick I think I'm 2-3 pounds heavy.
Soundtrack:
Fastway - S/T (this is becoming a favorite!) _________________ Hey kid!

| BTW, thanks for the 475 on the dead. I don't know who's more deluded, you or me. _________________ All our ways that seem so right Lay inside the ways of death All our trying and our denying Paupers and peasants, masters of jest. |

You'd get there in a jiffy if you had the weight. Your cleans and that tentative first 250 x 5 makes me sure! _________________ Hey kid!
