Man, since I have abandoned machines (for the time being), I have really started nailing my back with pull-ups of varying types again. Today I did both wide grip and narrow grip and WOW...I can already feel them!

Anyone else still do the old fashioned pull-up rather than lat pull downs? They do a much more comprehensive job of building your back, incorporating your lats, rear delts, rhomboids, biceps, and even middle traps. Love pull-ups.

Pull-ups for me! In the last year I've started doing weighted pull-ups and those really help.

Part of my weekly workout the last couple months. I have trouble building my back but these help.

Even though I don't do the heavy weights you guys do, I have been doing pull-ups for 2 years now, and, the lifters at work can't believe how my back blew up, since I don't use heavy weights.

I put mine in between the rafters, at the bottom of my basement stairs. I stand on step #2 and I go way-down, till I touch the basement floor flat footed....so, I know that I am doing a deep pull. I do 2 sets of wide and 2 sets of close times 15 reps....I usually only do these 2 times a week though, sometimes 3. After having some forearm pains, I only do reverse grip now. I still use my lat machine, but, with light weight and reps of 24-25 for 4-5 sets 2 times a week. On the lat machine I do regular grip.

Sorry for the long post, but,,.....I got started doing pull-ups two Augusts ago, during the county fair. The Marines had a booth, and if you did 13, you got a hat, if you did 20 you got a Tee. Well, two years ago I did 15, and, my 8 year old LOVES that hat. Last year I did 23. This year, they didn't have it....I think I scared them off. Very Happy

23 is great! My current best is 18. I want to hit 20 by the New Year and go from there.

18 is great.

I wore out those black grips, btw, and I found some of that stuff that velcro sticks to, the soft stuff, with a tape back, and wrapped hand grips in that.

I have always had a big, strong back, and I have always done pull-ups. I will go periods of time moving away from them, but I always come back. My lats were still sore three days later from this recent pull-up work I did.

Do any of you ever do staggered pull-ups, where one hand is higher than the other? Man...now THOSE can do some damage! LOL! They are going to be on the agenda this week, along with wide and narrow grips.

I LOVE pull-ups. Used to do tons at home when I was younger. I really dislike the lat machines. Ugh.

Yeah still working on it but lately I haven't been at the gym as much as I wanted... I've only been about once or twice per week at best so I have a lot of work to do. Razz

The weight does make it harder. At 170 pull ups were much easier then 195.

Ever try one-handed pull ups? Now those are difficult.
