hELLO, Im on a strict low carbohydrate diet and having a lot of very positive results, including fat loss. but I feel my strenght for lifting has decreased a lot since a entered ketosis. I wonder if are there any substitutes for muscle glicogen as a source for ATP ( Tryphospahte adenosin ) since Glicongen and Glucose is used for that, but its just broken to the point of becoming lactic acid and providing only a few molecules of ATP in a anaerobic process. can creatine for example, substitute glicogen as a source for Tryphosphate Adenosin on short term anaerobic activities ?

The simple answer is not all that simple. Creatine can give you some help in this area, but remember, most scientists agree that for creatine to work effectively it needs to be taken with a simple sugar, such as that found in grape juice, for example.

Now, I am only speculating based on what I know and have experimented with, but I would think that if you combined glutamine with one of the newer Creatine-esthers which reportedly work better at lower doses and without glucose dependencies, then you might get some benefit. I'll do some digging and see what I can find for you.

Good to see you again Zze!

I'm about to start Creatine again May 1 and it's just good 'ol creatine monohydrate and I'll be interested to read what you say.

So, it's better to take it with juice?

Non-citric juice, yes. Most people recommend grape juice. Simple electrolyte drinks like Gatorade work as well.

Hey Arttie, thanks for the response. what I am doing in this low carb diet is carb loading some 1 hour before exercise. I take a dose of some 50 to 70 grams of simple carbohydrates ( basically sugary soda ) some 1 hour after training, and the results have been great. and I am taking creatine too, so I basically regained all the strenght I lost previously. its important NOT to ingest fat when youŕe on this carb loading process. this type of dieting is also known as "targeted ketogenic diet".

Yep, I have heard of it. It is not completely unlike what carb-depleted bodybuilders do before a show to get some volume back in their muscles.
