To make what I can make a long story short.......

Yesterday a call comes in for a Grass/Wildland/House/Car fire. A biggie. It's out of town but the smaller Volunteer towns will ask for help and we'll give it 99/100 times - as long as we have the manpower.

So, the call comes in right at 7:00 PM. My next and last meal is due at 9:00. About 1:30 into the incident I'm getting hungry. What can I do? I'm driving our Booster (off-road wildland/grass truck) and the Driver just sits there watching the guys and the fire and driving. So I'm stir crazy sitting there and these bags that have been next to me the whole time get my attention. I open one - it's a bag of water. Of course, we always need water. The other bag? Candy bars! I love chocolate based foods and pastries!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! 6 candy bars. Snickers, Snickers with Almonds and Milky Way bars!!

How I know that I'm in the GROOVE with my eating is that for maybe the first time in my life the presence of free, available chocolate didn't tempt me. Did.Not.

From a practical POV if the incident kept going well into the wee hours I'd have eaten some 'cause I would need something. However, around 9:15 or so I heard our Chief talking about wrapping up and leaving it with the Volunteers as things were getting under control. SO, I new I'd make it and not "need" the candy. We did get back to the Station at around 10:30. I went to bed a better person!!

I share because, man, once upon a time I'd have eaten at least 2-3 of those. Even during the last few years of my relative clean living I'd still hammer them. They were FREE!! But right now I'm so focused. I'm gonna ride this wave.

Just needed to share the victory. My wife understands - sort of - but
maybe not at the level you guys do. I know quite a few of you have and/or are actual bodybuilders and understand the struggle within.

Very cool dood. I've totally changed my eating habits to cut out sugars and starches. I have gone through the same thing. There was a time last week when it was a terrible day at work and I came home starving hungry. Normally, the first thing I would do is grab a bag of chips and chow through it. Not anymore. Once you have overcome that one time, it makes it easier down the road.

Congrats dood.
