How often do your work your Calf Muscles? I have big, well defined calves. I've always had them, even before I started working out. However, I work them hard at least once a week. A trainer I was talking to suggested I should be working them at least twice a week. What do you all think? ult _________________

I should be working them 24/7 as they're scrawny things. The stresses of Deadlifting and squatting heavy(er) have helped. WHEN I do cardio the running and jumping jacks I do help. However, I'm cursed with sticks. C'est la vie!! _________________ Hey kid!

I think calves have a lot to do with genetics. My calves are naturally big. Even when I was getting fat in my 30's, I had big, well defined calves. My doctor also suggest it might have to do with how I walk. However, part of it has to be genetics. My dad, who has never worked out a day in his life, has big calves as well. ult _________________

Yeah, I had a skinny roomate in college who hardly lifted a finger and he had a bodybuilder's calves. My observation is that calves are the most genetically influenced of the muscles. Funny, cause I was blessed with pretty good arms, chest and shoulders (the shame on my part is that I don't eat properly to get truly lean! But I'm working on that!) But my lower body stays fairly and comparatively skinny even with the same effort I give my upper body. _________________ Hey kid!

As with all bodyparts, this is very true. With calves, you either seem to have them or you don't. I work mine very hard once a week (leg day) and then give them some good stretching work, and maybe a lighter/higher rep second day, but never more than two. Forearms are another have/have not bodypart for people, as are traps.
