Going oldschool again!!!

I have spent the last four weeks completely machine free...all dumbbells and barbells...with the only exception being a weighted crunch machine and a leg curl machine. All sorts of new soreness! LOL! This is the kind of lifting I really enjoy and it really helps me get a fullness in my physique that I can't get with machines. Its already showing in my shoulders, arms, and pecs.

Eventually I will mix a couple of choice machines back in...lat pulls for example...but for now its old school/hardcore all the way again!

I thought you were going to say you were lifting rocks and uprooting trees.

I only have free weight stuff but I probably lift half of what you do.

Sometimes(most times) that is the best way. Do have access to a glute/ham raise machine? A much better choice than leg curls in my opinion.

Yeah, its not like I did 100% machines or anything. I still was about 70% free weights, but I just decided to do ALL free weights for several weeks/months.

I wish the gym I used to train at was still open. Man, that place was SCARY to most people! LOL! Loud metal music, a total of two machines in the joint (a beat up pec deck and a leg curl machine), tons of iron, all in a concrete room! LOVED IT!

Yeah, "pit" style gyms are easily the best. I hated the days I had to go to Gold's or World's gym.

Now I just do it in my garage or at work (which is more pit-ish).

, except for my lat machine...but, I am doing sets of 25 to 30 reps, so, I am lifting free weights that you guys wouldn't break a sweat with Razz

I wish I still had my old weights for my garage, but 3/4 ton of iron got REALLY old moving from place to place! I miss it though...had 6 different types of bars, plus plate-loaded dumbbells.

Maybe I'll move to freeweights at some point. But I had a friend say it's not recommendable unless you have a workout partner (for spots or whatever). Plus, I'd just feel out of my element at the fitness center.

But this is a long way off. I'm happy with nautilus. I just need to do some tweaking so I have time to do cardio everyday.

Regardless of all that though, I'm in fairly good shape compared to about 2 years ago.

There are certain lifts that yes, you should have a spotter for if you are inexperienced. Bench is an obvious one. Squats are another. However, there are a lot of free-weight exercises you can do on your own, especially if you are using dumbbells which are easier to dump if you get into trouble.
