Hey all, I know this is the weight room and I just wanted to pop in and start a topic about ketogenic diets. I'm currently following one (not a "diet" but a change a eating lifestyle) and I love it. Cutting out sugar, starches, wheat, and most dairy has done wonders for me. I feel so much more energy, no longer snore, don't have gas and IBS, and just overall feel so much better. I've also lost 22 pounds following this. I haven't been this weight since 2003.

I'm wondering if anyone else is following ketogenic eating. I know Ult did a few years ago, but not sure he still does. I'd be interested to see if anyone else eats this way.

Sounds like a form of the Adkins diet. Are you pretty much on proteins and vegetables?

I wouldn't say I am Atkins, as it is more of a combination of a few different plans. It is a mix of what I have found works for me to help me lose weight. I am eating high protein and fat, and very low carbs. Mostly a meat, veggie, and eggs diet. The dairy I have mostly cut out because although it doesn't cause me to gain, it also prevents me from loseing. I will be adding that back in once I reach my target weight.

Zze, I know there are some high-Protein low-carb diets out there that are setup for weight lifting as well as body building. I don't know any personally as I don't lift, but I know quite a few people talk about them on the low carb forum I am on. Let me know if you are interested.

Those diets are pretty good but the lack of grain is not a good thing. Try switching to high fiber grains and stay away from the white processed paste they pass of as wheat. If you want to cut out wheat their are oat grain products and even some with flax though those taste llike your eating bark. Most say to stay away from fruit for the most part and I can't do that. I love fruit. Fruit sugar is easily burnable so if you exercise at all you should be ok.

You must have your fruit and colorful veggies. Those carbs are almost neutral as the benefits are so good otherwise. You can overeat ANYTHING, but it's hard to overeat the colorful veggies and fruit. Fiber and the other macronutrients are very important.

My big key is moderation. I eat a little of just about everything, I just have to moderate.

Yeah. Sucks not being 20 anymore. I could eat a whole pizza and then go play basketball.

Fruit and whole grains are allowed on latter stages of the Atkins diet, but always with moderation. it should never go beyong your critical carbohydrate intake level. I am thinking about switching between Atkins and CKD , thats basically my plan, maybe an altered version of Atkins with carb loading before exercise, but low carb is certainly a good option.

I have type 2 diabetes and I'm very interested in this. It's almost how I already eat, though. I REALLY want to lose weight BAD. I'm starting to really feel the weight especially in the morning when I'm really stiff lately, and my lower back has been hurting.

Pretty much I have a "normal" breakfast (eggs, toast and juice made in the juicer) but before I do that I take my Metformin.

I don't have anything all day until lunch and then I have a huge serving of fruit like watermelon or something low sugar, and a low sugar yogurt. At 2nd break I have a salad that I make with dark greens, other veggies, green onions and a little bit of almonds and crumbled blue cheese. I put about 2 teaspoons of light raspberry viniagrette on it too. That's all I have all day at work, I have forbidden myself from the machines altogether!

I don't get fast food, either, the only exception being Wednesday which is payday...and then I get Subway, usually a BMT, and I eat half on first break and half on second.

For dinner I make healthy stuff like chicken and pork cutlets, cooked veggies, Cajun beans and rice, stir fry, etc.

Weekends are a bit harder because of our hectic schedules with ministry and whatnot. Of course at a youth group you have pizza, and so I usually have pizza with everyone although I only have usually two slices. A friend of ours usually brings like cookies or cake or something like that to bible study and I'll have a "normal" serving of that - and I swear on my life that is the ONLY sugar I have all week except what's in my salad and/or yogurt.

So I'm trying SO hard you guys, and I drink a lot of water, too. I've been doing this for about a month now and the frustrating part is that first I lost 12 pounds and then I GAINED three!!!

I do a LOT of lifting at my job (I'm in packing) up to 40-45 pounds repetitively all day long, and I have to do 120 boxes minimum a day. Some are just like a pound or so, or lighter but most are at least 10 pounds. So you could say my job IS my workout! At least for now.

When I do have bread or pasta (except for Subway) I have whole grain. I've heard that for diabetics, that's a really good thing. I also eat barley and brown rice or wild rice on occasion. I asked my doctor about the Atkins diet, and she graduated suma cum laude from OSU and is a naturopath, and she told me absolutely not, that with diabetics (or anybody) it can damage your kidneys.

BUT she is always pushing this "Eat Right For Your Type" diet. Have any of you ever heard of that? I'm blood type A, so I pretty much am supposed to eat like this anyhow......
