I think this forum with give you enough no-nonsense for a beginner.
Others can back me up or refute but start with the basics.
Are you healthy? You're not gonna drop dead getting your heart rate up? (I'm guessing not as a drummer). How are your knees and lower back? Even very properly done these areas (among others) will take the brunt of the non-muscular stress of lifting.
Do the main lifts for sure once a week.
Squat -which works Legs, lower back, abs, glutes (and others)
Bench Press - which works Chest, shoulders, triceps (etc...)
Deadlift - Back, Shoulders, hips, biceps (etc...)
you can add other things such as bicep curls, rowing exercises, pull ups, push ups....
BUT, keep it simple.
As far as HOW to these I'll let others chime in. Maybe rent a weight lifting DVD to see how it's done?
Keep it simple! Those three basic exercises will get you far on their own - especially at first - when done properly....
