This might be a good thing but I don't know what to do!

Years ago I invested in a home gym. I've got an awesome squat rack, enough bars and plates for me, dip-chin-pushup-ab station, bands, dumbbells, etc......

I did this to stop paying gym fees and to save time. I can just step into my garage to lift. Between home and work I have "enough".

HOWEVER, one of our Fire Stations (the one closest to my house) was donated TONS of great equipment. Dumbbells up to 110#, machines, racks, etc....What they have would outfit a decent and respectable "pit" or basement type gym.

I'd LOVE to lift there and I'd have a partner more then likely (which I've wanted as you know) BUT then I'd feel somewhat guilty leaving my stuff at home - that I paid a lot of money for - laying there unused.

I know this sounds stupid but I'm torn!! By lifting at the station #1 - I DON'T use my stuff and #2 - I lose time out of my life by traveling over there.

I just wanted to vent! I'll figure it out but I wanted to voice my frustration as I know of no one else who can relate....

What about setting up some sort of donation-type situation, where you "loan" your equipment to the station, as long as there is a contract of some sort that allows you to remove your equipment should you choose to leave?

I used to own over 3/4 ton of iron and bars, benches, collars, etc. After 3 moves, however, I just traded it all off...

Not a bad idea! They don't have a proper squat rack. They have a Smith Machine but I want to squat free.

Something to think about.....

It would seem to be win-win for everyone...

it pays to have variety in your workout.
if you feel the addition of equipment at the gym can push you further or 'expand' on what you've got going on at home, then go for it.
you wont be wasting your home gym. you can still use it on days you dont feel like schlepping it to the gym, during bad weather, etc...

I thought people went to the gym just for a social club?

hehe

You could donate some dumbbells to a poor missionary. (me) I would love to get some 65-85lb dbs.
Sounds like a good dilemma. jocolor

You could do your heavy days at the station where you have a training partner and your light days in the garage.

Thanks all!

Yeah, I've decided to do just about that Jim. With a partner at the Station I can go heavy and up the intesity. Those quick accessory lifts I can do at home.

Emptytomb....I'll pray for you! Seriously.... Very Happy

This is an excerpt from my post in the training thread....

The Cybex (inspired by Ult!) was a nice twist. Going heavy
partner-less without fear of getting stuck. I realize Cybex 290 is NOT
free 290, but that's as heavy as the thing goes. What it WILL do is
allow me those heavy low rep sets w/out getting pinned.

The
'new' dumbbells are sets of 80, 90, 95, 105, 110. Having only 55's at
my Station I didn't want to get too nuts so I used the 80's. They felt
good and after being exhausted from the heavy stuff I was pleased with
the 80's.

Here's the GOOD NEWS!! One of the guys came and said
"I thought you wanted some of these weights" to which I said "Yeah, I
asked and was told they're staying here" to which he said "No one here
needs more than the 80's and besides the 105 and 110's are close enough
that we can spread the wealth. SO!! There's one big guy to ask and if
he doesn't mind sharing the wealth I'll get either 105's or 110's for
my Station! cheers cheers
As a bonus there was a stray 100 that the guy today just said "take it"
so I said "O.K.!!" and at the very least I can do rows, overhead Tri
Extensions and ab stuff. I MIGHT be able to talk our Lt. into getting a
matching 100. (we had some money donated to the Station and the rest of
the fellas want a grill Rolling Eyes - I was asked my vote and I said I'd vote for the grill if some money could be set aside for one dumbbell. The LT said that would probably work. Here's hoping!)

That's
a book, but I'm excited. One way or the other I expect to see my bench
start climbing. 3 Bills by July!!!! That's my new mantra!!
