| | Anyone willing to part with their copy of Brainchild? I'm not really looking to trade, I would rather just purchase it. |

| That is the Retroactive reissue that is for sale on eBay...good price, though, unless you are specifically looking for an original...

| | The sonics are much better on the Retroactive reissues. I've listened to a few of the originals and the reissues back-to-back and I certainly hear an improvement. |

| Thanks guys, I might just pick up that retroactive release.
Edit: It looks like there is a Brainchild - Mindwarp and a Circle of Dust - Brainchild which are both Retroactive Records releases on eBay. Which one should I get...I'm confused |

| Buy them both. Brainchild-Mindwarp was originally meant to be Scott Albert's / Klay Scott's side project with REX producer, Doug Mann (hence its much thrashier sound ala Ministry & KMFDM). They call themselves Tok (Mann) and Psychoboy (Scott Albert) respectively on Brainchild - Mindwarp. To alleviate confusion between COD and Brainchild due to REX's decision to distribute COD into the mainstream via the short-lived RED distribution, Scott chose to call every subsequent release Circle of Dust. Brainchild-Mindwarp was rushed into release in late '92 and, consequently, 2 tracks ('Telltale Crime' and 'Prayers of a Deadman') appear in unfinished form along with an earlier version of the song 'Deviate'. COD-Brainchild, released in August '94, featured 7 original tracks remastered with much more predominant bass tracks. It also features 2 totally different re-recorded versions of both 'Telltale Crime' and 'Prayers of a Deadman' that Scott was much happier with. The original version of 'Deviate' is also replaced by 'Deviate (Sawed-off Shotgun Edit),' a remix originally released in '93 on the phenomenal Brainchild/Living Sacrifice/COD remix album, Metamorphosis. Both albums are great, the differences between them are worth hearing. Definitely seek out the Retroactive reissue of Metamorphosis also. That's still Klay's creative magnum opus, IMNSHO |

| | I've always thought that the "to alleviate any confusion" part of changing from Brainchild to COD was hysterical. And here, after how many years, we're still trying to explain what went down. I'm sure glad all that confusion was taken care of! |

| Yeah, both versions aren't TERRIBLY different... but yeah 'Deviate', 'Cranial Tyrant' 'Telltale Crime' and 'Prayers Of A Dead Man' have some noticeable changes on the COD version...most of which seem to benefit the songs (i.e. removing lame samples, extending, editing vocal distortion, etc.)
Probably the best fix was removing the faster part in 'Telltale Crime'...that just did not fit the song well IMO. |

Part of the change was due to the demise of the original plan to make Brainchild a separate project between Doug Mann & Scott Albert. The two never collaborated again after the Metamorphosis bonus tracks, 'Heldweller' and 'Nihilistic Void.' Despite what Patho said, Scott Albert, by his own admission, also remixed all of the bass tracks for COD-Brainchild, making them much lower and heavier than those heard on Mindwarp (See 'Hard News' from the Jan/Feb '94 Issue of Heaven's Metal). If you listen to Mindwarp and Brainchild side by side, you'll quickly notice that Brainchild is much heavier than Mindwarp thanks to some skillful remixing. As with everything he's ever redone, Scott managed to improve Mindwarp in very meaningful ways with COD Brainchild. |
