Some people here have trouble telling the difference between "disagreeing with a point of view" and "lack of respect for someone". It's usually an argument made by people who can't divide between honest disagreement with points of view and personal attacks.

So here's your illustration.

I live surrounded by 3 vets. One of them is fairly apolitical and simply views the job of a soldier as exactly that: his job. One is a premillennial conservative who's way too hung up on Jewish practices. He supports the war and the GOP. The other is the son of the Cuban boatlift in 1980, who's a strong supporter of Obama and thinks all the soldiers need to come home NOW.

I respect all three soldiers. I'm grateful for their service and honor what they have done for this country regardless of their political positions. When all of them got home, I was one of the first in line to welcome them back and thank them for their service to our country.

Having said that, I think the soldier who supports Obama is 100% wrong. I think his few, limited experiences in the red zone (where he didn't actually lose anyone in his squad and injuries were pretty light) and his parents' history of living under a socialist/communist regime have colored his opinions. Furthermore, his age (he's around 25-26 yrs old) may illustrate a lack of maturity that the other 2 - both in their late 30's - don't suffer from.

The real trick is that all 3 would tell you that they for for me to have the right to have this opinion, and that they'd do it again. That's because they're all men of honor.

However - IVAW is not made up of men of honor. There are enough questions that have not been addressed by the members of that group, including questions regarding the actual service of the men who claim to be "former soldiers", to call into question the legitimacy of their claims. Men of honor would address the issues and let your opinion be whatever it is. They wouldn't hide behind politics, truck themselves around in limos, and issue apologies for suspending people who threatened others' lives.
