| Two Great Rebel Armies: An Essay In Confederate Military History by Richard M. McMurray. This is an exploration and examination of the two largest field armies of the Confederacy in the American Civil War. They were the Army Of Tennessee west of the Appalachian Mountains, and the Army Of Northern Virginia east of the Appalachian Mountains. The Army Of Northern Virginia enjoyed considerable success in many of the war's greatest battles. Its campaigns and battles have been the subject of many detailed studies, and it has won a place in American history unmatched (IMO) by any other American military force. It would be difficult to find an educated American who had never heard of Robert E. Lee, Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson, Pickett's Charge, and Appomattox. By contrast the Army Of Tennessee lost almost every major battle it fought, and for decades after the war it was virtually ignored by historians. During the war this army often faded from the popular mind in the South, and today only dedicated students of either the conflict, or military history in general (like me ) are familiar with Leonidas Polk, Braxton Bragg, Resaca, and Bennett's Farm. Put in a verbal nutshell, the author talks about why Lee's army was so very much more successful than the western Confederate army. Good, good stuff. _________________ "The 'farce' is strong with Sith Lord Obama-Wan." words of Scourge.

I read that last year, as well as Frankenstein. They were better than I thought theyd be. Not as gruesome. I thought Frankenstein was a little better. |

| Over vacation, I read Dean Koontz's new novel, Relentless. It ruled. Then I started Jeffrey Deaver's The Coffin Dancer, Michael Connelly's Void Moon, and TL Hines's Faces in the Fire. |
