PostSubject: Fireproof - the movie!   Fri Sep 26, 2008 11:50 am

Today, Sept. 26, is the release date for the new movie "Fireproof". This movie was made by Sherwood Pictures, the same outfit that brought us the highly successful 2006 film "Facing The Giants". Sherwood Pictures started as an outreach of the Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA. They wanted to make films featuring stories about people of faith and their struggles and how those things can change as we draw nearer to Christ.

"Facing The Giants", Sherwood's 2nd film, was made with a $100,000 budget with absolutely no professional actors. But, due to a great story, hardworking volunteers, and a lot of prayer, this independant film caught the eye of the Hollywood machine as they grossed over $12 MILLION in theaters alone. Sherwood Baptist is investing a lot of that into the new film. But, they also built a sports complex complete with gym, pool, indoor walking track, etc. and GAVE it to the City of Albany. How's that for community outreach?

The new film does have one pro actor in it. 80's teen icon Kirk Cameron stars in "Fireproof". This movie portrays a man who is a firefighter who believes in never leaving a partner behind when he is fighting fires, but struggles in that area at home with his wife. Can their marriage that is on the rocks be saved?

You can find out more about the movie at: www.fireproofthemovie.com

You can check with your local theaters for showtimes and pricing. If you go to the "Fireproof" website, you can find out about many theaters that are carrying this film.

In my neck of the woods, only 2 or 3 theaters carried "Facing the Giants". With the new movie, I have found 9 within less than an hour from me.

I want to see this, but getting a night out with my wife right now is nigh unto impossible. Then when we do get a date, my wife wants to spend the evening talking of course. Good grief, who wants to talk to their wife when there's a good movie to see? Cool

Maybe with this film, you could tell her that you can talk about the movie after it's over. Yeah, that's the ticket.

I'll see it but I don't think Cameron is a good actor so I hope they didn't have to pay a lot for his services.

We went to see this last night. There are several things worth pointing out.

1) The story for this is amazing! It really shows a married couple whose marriage is well past the breaking point. But, when God finally gets ahold of one of the couple, he buckles down and decides that he will fight for his marriage. The main character goes through a ton of pain to follow through on saving his marriage. I hope that married couples everywhere can see this and decide to tough things out no matter how bad it has gotten. God is God and He is still fixing broken lives, broken marriages, etc.

2) The cinemetography of this movie is excellent! Having a much larger budget this time, this movie looks and feels more professional than "Facing the Giants". When the firefighters are attempting to rescue people from a car accident with an oncoming train barrelling down or when they are in a burning home, it looks and feels real. You will see some familiar faces from "Facing the Giants" and "Flywheel", but that just adds to the movie as you see familiar people.

3) The acting ability of Kirk Cameron is vastly improved. In the other movies I have seen Kirk in, I could never really shake the notion that this was just that goofy kid from "Growing Pains". This part almost seems like it was created for Kirk, and he is able to really bring the character to life. I was worried about the choice of him in the lead, but now I see it was the right choice.

All in all, it was a great movie! They had so many people show up last night for the 7PM show that the theater we went to shut another movie down to open a second screen for this film! God is awesome!

"Fireproof" was made on a paltry $500,000 budget. As of Sunday night, the movie has grossed $6.5 million and is officially the number 4 film in the nation!

Way to go, Sherwood! Keep it up!

Well, to be honest, I think it will be a good movie. Of course, I really want to see it for several reasons. 1) It was mostly filmed right here in my hometown in Tennesee. 2) It's about someone I really respect--Billy Graham. 3) I got to be an extra in it and can actually see myself in the TRAILER!

as a single, this movie holds no interest for me. in fact, it would probably be completely depressing, on many levels, so i'll be avoiding it like the plague.

HOWEVER, i'm glad there are people out there making and releasing movies like this.

i stopped by Chik-Fil-A for lunch the other day after school and they're putting cards, advertising 'Fireproof' in with every bag, apparently.

Kirk probably got the part because he's "Joe Evangelist", not because he was a good fit.
