| Next question--short and sweet: Who was the very last Roman Emperor to rule over an undivided empire? Elucidated upon a little bit; the Roman Empire had seen military, political, administrative divisions between east and west for a long time when this man became emperor. Dividing the Roman Empire into eastern and western areas of military, political, and administration had been done for a long time, and was a fairly regular feature of the empire by the time this man took over as Imperator. He changed it back to the way it had been before this east/west thing started. It worked pretty well. This man ruled for almost twenty years and was quite a successful emperor. He was a fine military commander and administrator. However, after he died the division between east, with the capital at Constantinople, and the west, with the capital at Rome/Ravenna became permanent. It was never unified again. Who was he? A--Diocletian B--Probus C--Honorius D--Theodosius I E--Constantine I F-- Richardus Burtonus Decide. _________________ "The 'farce' is strong with Sith Lord Obama-Wan." words of Scourge.

| I am pretty sure its Constantine. I am happy to see his name come up because on the Viking thread I made reference to the song Istanbull, not Constantinople. I was very disappointed that no one picked up on my reference to the 4 Lads. |

| O.K. it is time to answer the question and move on to the next one. Here is the question: "Who was the very last Roman Emperor to rule over an undivided empire? Elucidated upon a little bit; the Roman Empire had seen military, political, administrative divisions between east and west for a long time when this man became emperor. Dividing the Roman Empire into eastern and western areas of military, political, and administration had been done for a long time, and was a fairly regular feature of the empire by the time this man took over as Imperator. However, after he died the division between east, with the capital at Constantinople, and the west, with the capital at Rome/Ravenna became permanent. It was never unified again. Who was he? A--Diocletian B--Probus C--Honorius D--Theodosius I E--Constantine I F-- Richardus Burtonus"So the guesses are Alldat comes in with Richardus Burtonus, L8T and Black Rider with Theodosius I, and Intrigued1 with Constantine I. The correct answer is.........(Insert drumroll here)....... Flavius Theodosius I. Theodosius I was Imperator from 379 A.D. to 395. He took an empire that had been using two rulers, one east and one west, for the better part of 100 years, since 285 A.D. These two Roman Emperors had divided the government, military, and administration of the empire between them. The eastern part had its capital in Byzantium, later Constantinople, and the western part in Rome/Ravenna. There had been some times since 285 A.D. when the empire was ruled as a unity, but they had been very few and very far between, usually of a short duration. Theodosius took over as emperor and ruled alone until his death. After his death there never was a sole Roman Emperor again, until the official split in 476 A.D. when the western part broke away from the east, for good. Next question: Something happened in 410 A.D. that had not happened in 800 years. It was quite the shock to the entire part of the world that was Romanized. Not since the conquering of the city of Rome by Celtic, Gaullic warriors invading Italy from the north in the early 4th Century B.C. had an invader entered within its walls. Rome remained unconquered for 800 years. It was not for lack of trying, either. Rome had been besieged several times during the Republican years before the time of Augustus and the Empire. However, in 410 A.D. an invader was allowed into the city by treachery. One of the main gates of Rome was opened and the invaders spilled in and took over the city. Who was the man who did this feat, unmatched in 800 years? A--Pepin the Frank B--Alaric the Visigoth C--Gaiseric the Vandal D--Odoacer the Lombard E--Theodoric the Ostrogoth F-- Richardus BurtonusDecide. _________________ "The 'farce' is strong with Sith Lord Obama-Wan." words of Scourge.
