So is this just more anti-christian, screw organized religion bullsmurf, or is there something deeper?

See the video

Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden
And you stare at me
In your jesus christ pose
Arms held out
Like youve been carrying a load
And you swear to me
You dont want to be my slave
But youre staring at me
Like I need to be saved
In your jesus christ pose
Arms held out
In your jesus christ pose
Thorns and shroud
Like its the coming of the lord
And I swear to you
That I would never feed you pain
But youre staring at me
Like Im driving the nails
In your jesus christ pose
And you stare at me
In your jesus christ pose
Arms held out like its
The coming of the lord
And would it pay you more to walk on water
Than to wear a crown of thorns
It wouldnt pain me more to bury you rich
Than to bury you poor
In your jesus christ pose

Meaningless lyrics, imo.

I've always viewed that song as taking the image of Christ on the cross and applying it to someone who was playing the martyr. Nothing offensive or anti Christ about that IMO, it's just imagery.

I always wonder if he had a bad experience with religion sort of like Hetfield.

I think the words are meant to slam people who are very self-righteous and somehow feel the need to show people their religion rather than live it. But, I could be wrong.

I think I read somewhere that he was criticizing his ex-wife/manager in this one and it has nothing to do with religion/Christianity, akin to TallT's post. ^

Soundgarden sucks anyways.. This song has the best lyrics.. hehe. Laughing

Golden Boy- Rippin Kitten

Mommy, can I go out and kill tonight?
I feel, I feel like taking a life.
Please, I wanna silver kitchen knife
And feel, feel like taking a life.

Rippin kitten killing on the round
Rippin kitten killing on the round

Daddy, can I go and hunt tonight
Like you do on Sunday mornings.
Honey, give me a real gentle knife
To feel, feel like taking my life.

Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round

Mommy, can I go out and kill tonight?
I feel, I feel like taking a life.
Please, I wanna silver kitchen knife
And feel, feel like taking a life.

Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round
Rippin kittin killing on the round

Mommy, Daddy, let me go
Mommy, Daddy, please let me go

I vaguely remember reading that about one of their songs, but can't remember which one. It may well be this one. Even so, here's my take on it (even if it differs from his intentions)...

When I first heard it was at the height of my Christian zeal - when I was out to save the world, whether they wanted to hear my cymbal clanging or not. So I was very offended by the song, and swore to avoid listening to it and to question all Soundgarden songs as anti-Christian.

Fast forward 18 years, and I have a different take on it. One similar to alldat's. I see it as an "F You" to anyone who cannot realize when to stop "witnessing", shut up, and just pray. This one goes out to the in-your-face people who often (unknowingly) give Christianity a bad name, whether their intentions are truly good or their just trying to earn Jesus points.

I interpret the song as written from the perspective of someone who doesn't want to hear the message, especially not from the same fool who keeps trying to force it down the throat. And I'm forced to agree with both sides. People need to hear the message, but they don't always need it shoved in their face. I know I'd be pissed off too.

A time to keep silence, And a time to speak

Ash, why put a penny on this discussion's tracks instead of starting a new one?
