Has anyone used Avid Media Composer for video editing?

by any chance? I'm just wondering how it is, if anyone has any experience as I may be working with it soon... otherwise Adobe Premier.

Avid is the tops on the field, period, folled by Apple's Final Cut. At the video conventions I've been to, Premiere is mentioned as "that product for PC's" right before they go into talking about how wonderful Avid and Apple are.

Having said that, I've been using Premiere Pro for 2 years now, and I like it. I don't love it - I like it. It's a bit buggy at times, and depending on how loaded down your PC is, it can be downright painful. But when it works, it works beautifully.

I was supposed to switch over to Mac this year, but budgets have been tight, and frankly, I've been focused on another video project involving live production using a NewTek Tricaster Studio, 3 Sony Remote-Controlled 3-chip cameras, a massive sound system, and all sorts of other fun toys.

Oh, nice! Hey, is Avid strictly for macs?? I'm supposed to switch over to a mac soon too, but I'm not sure how long it will be until I can afford it.

There's a couple of Avid products that are Mac-Only, but most of it's a Mac and PC combo.

Avid has supported Mac and PC for at least the past 5 years or so. Media Composer is he best, IMO. Final Cut is good, but I find Avid to be a bit more intuitive as far as figuring stuff out on the fly. I think you'll really enjoy Avid. I certainly do. You might say I'm an avid Avid user.

Makes me wish I worked for someone willing to drop $5,000 on an Avid workstation. Oh, well...

On the upside, I'm starting a course in cinematography and editing in a few weeks. Yee-hah.
