It's a standardized test required by many graduate schools:

Most art schools don't require it, but I'm actually applying for an interdisciplinary visual studies phd program at Harvard that requires it.

I took it - did well enough to get into a masters program that required a different test - but since I had already done it, they accepted it. As I recall, lots of math. Of course - I took it in about 1993. . . .

Weird. I have always done well on standardized tests (not ace it well, but pretty well), so I didn't find it really more difficult than other ones. The weird thing is that after I got my results back I talked with people to compare notes, you know, get a feel for how well I did in terms of admission standards and the like. The thing is, nobody knew. Nobody seemed to know what scores were required to get in anywhere or what was considered a good score. Like Wes, though, I think I took mine in maybe 94, so maybe there's more of a feel for those things now. Good luck.
