| We were set to celebrate Halloween. We had the yard decorated, and we had bought plenty of candy. We were set. However, I began to have a change of heart. My wife's birthday is Monday. Although I have never forgotten her birthday (escpecially since it is 2 weeks after mine), hers had kind of slipped up on me and I had no gift ideas. But then a really good plan popped into my head. My wife and I enjoy hockey. Nashville Predators hockey. She is, however, a much bigger fan of the game than am I. So, we talked it over, and I bought her tickets to last night's game against the Dallas Stars--which we WON! I also bought her a Preds scarf and a window cling that looks like a puck went through her window. Like I said, she has Preds fever. So, missing Halloween to spend time with the Mrs. Alldat was a good thing. _________________ "I have no desire to speak w/other tongues, I already do enough damage w/the one I have!!" - Candlemass |

| I took my daughter around trick or treating for a couple of hours and then went to a metal show at a local place. I dressed as an aging metalhead, complete with Believer t-shirt. _________________ “If you make less than $250,000 your taxes will not go up. Christmas is a federal holiday.
I don't see any reason to wait until Halloween to dress up, if you are into that.
Dressing up as a monster or superhero seems a bit silly if you are over 12 years old.
But whatever tickles your fancy... |
I don't know, there is a lot of scary stuff and well, at least tricking, on the federal level. I teach at a university and it makes me want to say "Oh please" when I look out and see Scooby Doo, Hong Kong Phooey, and Final Fantasy characters sitting in my classroom while I tell them about the wonders of Schubert and Berlioz. The best costume I had in class was a guy about 6'3" 120 pounds with Dee Snider hair dressed as Britney Spears from the "Baby One More Time" video. As for Reformation Day, I always celebrate, if that's what you call it, by listening to Mendelssohn's "Reformation Symphony" and recalling my favorite Martin Luther quote: "But I resist the devil, and often it is with a fart that I chase him away." |
