I would much rather watch the Hulk, who incidentally was creator Jack Kirby's take on Frankenstein, than Hobbits, rings, etc. You obviously know next to nothing about Kirby. He not only used Mary Shelly to breathe life into the Hulk, he also immersed himself in Norse mythology to create the Mighty Thor. Schuster & Seigel, both Jewish, drew from the story of Moses from Exodus to create Superman's origin. The best characters in comics were created by people who read classic literature, mythology, fantasy, etc. for inspiration. Comic book artists, especially from Kirby's era, are not the literary simpletons you make them out to be.
Default acting? You can't really be serious! Edward Norton is one of the best actors of our time. Watch The Illusionist, The Italian Job, Fight Club, or Primal Fear. Then, tell me Ed Norton can't act. At least he's not typecast like Elijah 'Frodo' Wood. He's already proven that he's not a one-trick pony. You like fantasy and that's about it. You are very much the typical, cookiecutter goth/technopagan, both your appearance and musical taste say it all. I deal with your kind pretty regularly. Your cinematic tastes are usually pretty bad and severely limited to fantasy & sci-fi. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was great, but Ian McKellan & Vigo Mortenson carried the whole thing on their shoulders in the same way that Alec Guiness, James Earl Jones, and Harrison Ford carried the original Star Wars Trilogy. Anyone with one shred of honesty knows that's true.
You've already stated before that comic book movies are 'bad.' You're biased right out of the gate, dude. Well, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, etc. have just as much literary clout as Tolkien's characters. Nearly 50 years apiece of storytelling history. Different genres, but equally interesting characters in their own right. |

i dont think it's going to be anything that extreme.
the military wants the Hulk to use as a weapon, so they're out to retrieve Banner. they're not bombing babies or kicking puppies, to accentuate the 'evilness' of the military.
everything doesnt have to be super-serious or seen as a cut against our military. some stuff you can just watch with no political agenda and enjoy for what it is.

Trust me, I"m all aware of that. One of my favorite war movies is "Platoon". Here's the rub. The entire time the trailer basic gave the "the U.S. military doesn't give a rip about the guy himself or his freedom they just care to use him for destruction". Why give my money to a movie that insults soldiers and fellow vets. If you want to see it then by all means do. This is just me personally. The movie looks like crap and it has a "the military is evil" hook.

Another one who knows nothing about the Hulk. The US military was always trying to capture the Hulk for its own purposes going all the way back to the comics of the 1960's. It was his 'adversary,' in many ways. General Ross was always opposed to the Hulk. Why don't you try giving up your a political pundit crap for once and appreciate something on its own terms without looking for a left-wing political subtext behind everything, DMCM? It's not just Ashenvale's opinion of the movie. It's that the majority of his posts are negative, whether they're about Scripture, movies, or life in general, hence my 'typical goth/ technopagan' comment. As I've said, I deal with these types regularly. Their myopic view of Scripture is most disturbing. They spend most of their time fixated on Ecclesiastes, Lamentations, and the imprecatory Psalms, making those passages the sum total of their approach to life and Spirituality. This type of attitude/worldview is completely contrary to Scripture, no matter how much Christian goths try to treat it as sacrosanct. It's only one aspect of a whole spectrum of emotions displayed in Scripture. There's a time to be negative, depressed, etc., but to seemingly live in a perpetual state of naysaying and bleakness does not in any way testify to one's redemption in Christ. |
