| Ok, if it's a nasty respiratory infection it's these items: oj, tons of green tea, a b-complexx vitamin and pretty soon my system gets sleepy and goes naturally into fight mode. Staying warm and sleep makes it better pretty quickly. A hot bath to stimulate the lymphatic system. I also am not above eating raw garlic as it is teh poor man's penicillin, yes it is. I tend to ignore the symptoms and address the cause, tho I will use some Vick's vapor rubb and a heating padd under the lungs to clear them. I've got one of those wrapp things you can chill OR put in the microwave and place it around the throat. I try to avoid prescription stuff whenever possible. I *hate* side effects. I rarely have any stomach flus anymore but a rare bout of diarrhea, it's usually a dose or two of Pepto, some rest, some extra fluid and I'm all good in a couple of days tops. I never used to get allergies but over the last ten years they have started to bugg me, the itching and runny nose aren't that badd tho my nose can get sore from the wiping and I hate how stuffed and pressured my head feels. The worst part is the body aches that mimic the fever/flu and the throat feeling like particles of fiberglass are in it. Other peeps in the house use Benadryl but I get more relief with a 24 hour Claritin, UNTIL... I saw this little teapot at my friend's house ( she is a nurse) and asked her about it but she seemed reluctant/embarassed to tell me. I just happen to like teapots but thought it was awful small ... Then her Oprahness did a piece on her show about this little wonder: The Neti pot
and introduced me to the joy, relief and savings of nasal irrigation!
I know it seems gross and some people just couldn't do this to themselves but the relief is instaneous and all that is required is some distilled water (lukewarm) NON-iodized salt and some baking soda. It flushes out the allergens to where your natural defenses can keep up AND moistens the sinus passages so they don't crack and turn into a sinus infection. No more pills for me!! I eat pretty healthfully enough of the time to not get sick much at all but when I do, I like healing foods that have flavor, ESPECIALLY when the tastebuds seem off due to sickness: Fresh chopped salsa with chipps(plenty of enzymes, minerals and vitamin C) Won Ton soup if I can get a decent batch, and sometimes what really hitts the spott is chicken Ramen and pb-n-j sammiches. I also use laffter to heal; in between sleeping I will throw in a Will Farrell dvd or something equally stoopid and cozy up on the couch. I basically take care of myself do what is necessary and hardly ever get crabby. _________________ only symbols can be twisted ,burned, spat on etc.NOTHING truly Holy can be desecrated.....

It's very cleansing and does wonders for inflammation of any sort... if the doctors are correct. I drink it almost every day. _________________ only symbols can be twisted ,burned, spat on etc.NOTHING truly Holy can be desecrated.....

| Angel, the nasal irrigation isn't necessary. Get some bottled nose spray that is just saline water. A couple of quick shots of that a couple of times a day is all that is necessary to keep nasal passages clear and prevent dry skin inside your nose. If you should start to feel a sinus infection coming on, switch to something like Afrin with a good decongestant in it. _________________

| I did try that saline spray when I visited my mom in Arizona and it was 'okay', tho nothing I did while there kept me from being dehydrated all over. I like the flushing of the whole sinus passages, not just a squirt here or there and I know people who are addicted to that Afrin nasal spray. All it does is make me feel numb.. and then more or as stuffed as before in a few minutes. _________________ only symbols can be twisted ,burned, spat on etc.NOTHING truly Holy can be desecrated.....

| The Afrin nasal spray can be different then just a saline spray as it may have a medication in it. Green tea can make me act well so I don't have to drink anymore. _________________ All our ways that seem so right Lay inside the ways of death All our trying and our denying Paupers and peasants, masters of jest. |

When I visited Nevada and Arizona was the first time in my life that I was allergy free. Apparently, there are very few trees or grasses there that I'm allergic to. They abound here. On the flip side, my wife started sneezing the minute we stepped out of the airport for our ride to our hotel in Vegas. _________________

| Hate the green tea. My mom used to make us drink it when we were sick and I have some bad associations of puking green tea in mass amounts and then having to guzzle down more. Why not just recycle it? It was still green tea, right? Drop some ice in it, and you can drink it again and again! _________________

I felt no allergies there, it was really nice. I used the saline spray more for the dryness. I drank the same amount of water as I did when hiking the ruins every day in the Middle East during the heat of summer, (tons) put on lotions and creams after showering and I still felt like a dried up potato chipp every single day.

NastY!! The ol' negative association...My mom used to make weak mint tea for those occasions. I've puked up worse things but that's understandable.
When I am going to have to puke that badly, I'd rather just finish puking my gutss upp and go unconscious for a couple days before considering having much of anything to drink. Just bring up the bile til my body can't make anymore...sleep and I might have some tea in a few days.
That's sounds really abnormal but one time after a measles vaccination, I actually got it. My fever was so high that the skin started peeling off of my fingers and toes and I puked bile off and on for about two 1/2 weeks. Very little could I keep down, I lost 15 lbs and spent much of the time I wasn't puking semi-conscious. That was far beyond any normal badd case of the flu I've ever had. _________________ only symbols can be twisted ,burned, spat on etc.NOTHING truly Holy can be desecrated.....

| Hostess fruit pie out the nose is awesome? You need to get out more. Strangely too, I don't have a tender tummy, I can ingest many bad and greasy things and be ok. Now, back to your regularly scheduled rants about sickness. _________________ All our ways that seem so right Lay inside the ways of death All our trying and our denying Paupers and peasants, masters of jest. |

Yes...depending on what flavor it was and how chewed it was before it came out !! As a kidd I often puked with such force as to propel things across the room and often had horrible concoctions coming out of my nose while I did...but I never had a solid quite like that. I take it then you've never puked bile..or had it flow out of your nose?? Yeah pie, pizza, spaghetti..even other things you might hate to eat are better through the nose than that. _________________ only symbols can be twisted ,burned, spat on etc.NOTHING truly Holy can be desecrated.....
