Just glancing through this thread, and I have to thank Scourge for pointing out the X-Files movie due out in July. Not so much because a new X-Files movie is due out, even though it conjures up memories of the first X-Files movie--which my wife and I went and saw in Florida on the first day of our honeymoon 10 years ago next month, such a great memory. No, a new X-Files movie did not need to be made.

My thanks are because, when checking the IMDB page about the movie, there was an ad banner for the 2-part A&E TV remake of Andromeda Strain, which shows Monday and Tuesday. When I first read about it months ago I was instantly on board for watching it, being a huge fan of the book and the first movie. But I lost track of it, and without your info about X-Files leading me to the IMDB page I would have completely missed it Monday night. The TiVo is now set up.

Funny how these things work. Very Happy

Yes, a new X-Files movie did need to be made. While glancing through TVGuide.com list & summaries of must-see movies, they mention that it may tell us more about Scully's son, William. As an avid fan, I can think of 2 major plot threads that weren't tied up in the series that they may use one of the 3 proposed new movies to address. I can't wait to see it!

I'll be watching the Andromeda Strain remake as well. There are some good actors in it.

My wife and I were avid fans of X-Files. We've even got thousands of X-Files CCG cards boxed up somewhere in the house. But the place X-Files had in pop culture is just long enough gone that a second movie feels out of place. Five years ago, even three years ago, it might have felt right. But now it feels like a bit too much of a stretch. I'll be curious about it. But I've got a bad feeling it won't quite work. Nevertheless, I'm glad you're excited about it and that my lack of enthusiasm will not cloud your obvious enthusiasm. Smile I'll just keep fighting the future while you're looking forward to it. Wink

As for Andromeda Strain, I'm a big fan of the original movie version, and I thought the book by Crichton was excellent. TV miniseries based on books tend to get dumbed down, but I still have high hopes for this one.

Why? True fans will pay to see it, just like Trekkies will pack out theaters when J. J. Abram's new movie comes out. I watched a taped interview with Chris Carter about 2 months ago. Apparently, rumors are afloat that Lance Henriksen will be reprising his Millennium role, Frank Black, for either this or one of the other 2 X-Files Movies. Judging from the unmistakable 'Aw s**t, their ruining my movie' look on his face, I suspect it'll happen. When asked, he rather glibly stated that he has several ideas in mind to properly close out the series. Millennium was even better than The X-Files in many ways and probably my favorite TV show of all time. Particularly, Season 2 was easily the most perfect season of any TV show in the history of the medium. Talk about impeccable and riveting storytelling! Carter hated the X-Files/ Millennium tie-in back in '99. He definitely seems intent on doing justice to Millennium at some point.

I'm going to skip the new X-Files flick. I never really got into the show, and I have not watched the first movie. I probably wouldn't know what was going on with the story.

Although Chris Carter promises that it's a stand-alone paranormal story, but judging from everything that's been leaked by TVGuide online and other reputable sites, I don't buy it. (He promised that The X-Files: Fight the Future would be a stand-alone, and it wasn't by a long-shot) I say, 'Screw that'! It's the long-time, true-blue X-Philes like myself who are going to pay to see X-Files 2: I Want to Believe, not newbies. That's who these movies need to target. As with both the Star-Wars & Star-Trek Franchises, it's the diehard fans who pay to see the movie multiple times and buy every incarnation of the DVDs. The casual fan who watches for s**ts and giggles isn't where most of the revenue will come from with these niche films. In fact, I would say that their financial contribution is most likely miniscule compared to the fans in the grand scheme of things.

I'll definitely be watching for the new X-Files.

I think the biggest difference between Star Trek and X-Files is that Trek never leaves the public eye for very long. But X-Files left the front and center quite some time ago. I guess there are the reruns in syndication. But don't get me wrong--I'd like to think that if I watch this movie it'll pull me right back in. And I can still remember plots and characters from a lot of episodes. The shows sticks in a person's mind. My wife and I still laughingly refer to any TV character who needlessly inserts the word "damn" into every fourth word of every sentence as John Doggett.

As for Millennium, the first season of that show was outstanding. My wife and I were both huge fans. Lance Henriksen was perfect for that role. Season two was good, although not up to the standards set with season one. From there we felt it started to go downhill. But on the whole that was an outstanding show. It was like Profiler taken to the next, darker level. Henriksen is showing his age, but I think he could reprise that role quite well and I'd be very interested in a Millennium movie.

See, I've discovered that the phrase,'son of a b**ch,' is the most frequently-used expletive on The X-Files, averaging about once per episode. You must've loved the Millennium episode entitled '...Thirteen Years Later,' which featured all of the members of KISS playing different roles. Very cool! I think we'll see Frank Black resurface in The X-Files 2 only to spin the character off into a Millennium movie. One plausible scenario, which sounds like more than a theory at this point, is that Mulder and Scully will seek out Frank Black to help restore their good standing with the FBI, which they had both been thrown out of in the series finale. When Lance Henriksen was asked at last November's Collectormania Festival in Manchester, England if Frank Black would be appearing in The X-Files 2, he reportedly smiled and quipped, 'Can you guess why?' Apparently, he has a Chris Carter-imposed gag order placed on him that doesn't allow him to say any more. BUT, the CMR's Sci-fi supersleuth (me, of course Cool) also has learned that actress Sarah-Jane Redmond (Millennium's demonic, Lucy Butler) is also in the movie. Hmmm...I smell a Millennium-sized surprise wrapped up in an X-Files movie!
