| I'm looking forward to Prince Caspian myself. Given good reviews, I might also be willing to take in Iron Man or Dark Knight. We shall see. _________________

Truthfully, yes. Just as with Spawn, the whole concept of something straight from Hell becoming a superhero is just not the type of character I want to consider as hero material. I didn't care for Ghost Rider for the same reasons. I'll stick with the more atypical superheros with either super powers or incredible toys to stop the bad guys. |
Then you'd better avoid the Thor & Dr. Strange movies when they're released as well. If the Mandarin, the Bishop or Fin Fang Foom ever surface in one of the Iron Man sequels, you'd definitely be bothered. I find it humorous that you and other Christians I know say that Spawn, Hellboy & Ghost Rider bothered you AFTER you watched them. What were you expecting, Strawberry Shortcake? Just the names and trailers alone should've tipped you off that they would be problematic for you and weren't exactly family viewing. Why did you even bother to watch them at all, given that you're bothered by occultic movies? I'm not picking on you. My sister & brother-in-law have similar convictions. Yet, they still manage to watch those kinds of movies, invariably to rake them over the coals. Maybe you can explain the rationale behind constantly subjecting one's self to objectionable, supernatural movies that bother your conscience.
Personally, my love of Ghost Rider comic books as a boy was certainly a tool used by God to draw me to himself. At least comics like Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange, Spawn and Hellboy don't trivialize the supernatural. They depict it as something that's very real. That made it much easier for me to accept the supernatural events recorded in Scripture. I've never questioned the supernatural. Those more mystical comics certainly laid the groundwork for the Holy Spirit's regenerative work in my life that took place on September 9, 1985. |

I knew nothing about Spawn when I rented that one. I was working nights and hadn't watched tv in a couple of years. I rented because the cover looked cool. You would think that I would have learned to research characters better! With Hellboy and Ghost Rider, it was the draw of the special effects blockbuster kind of movies. I wanted to see them pretty much because I am a glutton for superhero movies with cool effects/visuals. But, I am getting smarter and checking stuff out a bit more before getting on board. I know what Hellboy is about now, and I don't plan to see the sequel. I won't bother with anything new by Spawn or Ghost Rider, either. At least with seeing what I have thus far, it is making me become more conscience of what I want to see before I spend money on a movie ticket or DVD rental. But, it isn't just superhero movies. I used to watch pretty much any horror flick that came out. I got tired of a lot of the occultic storylines, the gore, and the nudity found in a lot of R movies. I have severely limited what I watch in that area now. I know some of you guys here prefer actual "horror" films, but I am okay with just a good thriller now. _________________

| | Actually, in one of the 70s ghost rider comics, satan came to claim johnny blaze's soul, but Jesus (referred to only as "a friend", bur drawn to look just like Jesus) sent him away, saying that "he has earned his second chance". |

Yep, Marvel Spotlight #5, Ghost Rider's debut from August 1972. |

Holding out on them? Trust me, there are no major letdowns in Iron Man (one casting issue that I noted earlier), so I wouldn't hold out on that one. Dark Knight looks even more promising. _________________ "He had discovered Time and Death and God"-Aldous Huxley |

scourge, I have never watched any of those movies.

And yet, nearly every time a Christian says they will not go see a film based on the names, the trailers, etc. people tell them they are jumping to conclusions, don't knock it till you try it, don't judge it if you haven't even seen it for yourself, don't rush to judgement, bla bla bla...

So let me get this straight. You believe in the supernatural because you read about it in a comic book? Well now that I know the comics influenced you like that, no one had better ever tell me that comics don't influence kids... Even though comics are fiction, I believe they can have a strong impact on kids, for good or evil... _________________ YOU MUST RESIST!!! |

| Comic books influenced me positively, yes. I learned to take the supernatural seriously from them. The Defenders (Hulk, Sub Mariner, Dr. Strange, Nighthawk, Valkyrie, the Son of Satan, Silver Surfer & others) was the big one, particularly issues 99 & 100 when they visited hell. It was easier to go there since the son of Beelzebub himself already had a standing reservation Ironically, I won them at a church picnic. Slinging sandbags through a toilet seat was worth it. I snagged 30 comics in one felled swoop that day. The Defenders was always an orgy of hardcore supernaturalism. If I were given the chance to adapt a Marvel Comic for the big screen, that group would top my list. |

| Just kind of surprised that spmeone would believe in something based on the fact that they read about it in a comic book. _________________ YOU MUST RESIST!!! |

Hey, people can be influenced by different things. Remember, the goal of most Christian rock bands is to convert people through rock music. |

| I gues that I should have made this the "7 Must See Movies For Alldat" thread. I forgot about the new movie called "Fireproof" being put out by the same people that brought us "Facing The Giants". _________________

| Saw both "Prince Caspian" and "Indiana Jones 4" yesterday with the wifey. Both are very well done, but Narnia takes the lead as far as favorites go. While they did change a few things from the book, it still is a great fantasy film. It shows us that when mankind only trusts in itself, death and destruction reign. Only when we look for Aslan (Jesus), is there any hope of victory.
With Indy, you get a good action film, but get ready for some escapism. The "Refrigerator Scene" is WAY out there and hard to believe. I won't explain that. Also, the scenes at the end where the artifact is returned to the lost City Of Gold is hard to swallow. But, then again, it is Hollywood.
Ford plays this character very well. But, he is looking his 65 years of age. I don't think that most men that age could still fight and go traipsing around the globe in search of treasure like he does.
Overall, a fun film, but I liked both "Prince Caspian" and even "Iron Man" more. _________________

| Just glancing through this thread, and I have to thank Scourge for pointing out the X-Files movie due out in July. Not so much because a new X-Files movie is due out, even though it conjures up memories of the first X-Files movie--which my wife and I went and saw in Florida on the first day of our honeymoon 10 years ago next month, such a great memory. No, a new X-Files movie did not need to be made.
My thanks are because, when checking the IMDB page about the movie, there was an ad banner for the 2-part A&E TV remake of Andromeda Strain, which shows Monday and Tuesday. When I first read about it months ago I was instantly on board for watching it, being a huge fan of the book and the first movie. But I lost track of it, and without your info about X-Files leading me to the IMDB page I would have completely missed it Monday night. The TiVo is now set up.
Funny how these things work. _________________ - The nazpastor Challenge Revisited -

| Strutter, to answer your question, not even when it comes out on DVD. I was never a big fan of the cartoon although I did watch it occassionally. But, the movie just looks horribly cartoonish to me. I have no interest in seeing it whatsoever and probably won't even pay $1 to rent it through Redbox. _________________

Yes, a new X-Files movie did need to be made. While glancing through TVGuide.com list & summaries of must-see movies, they mention that it may tell us more about Scully's son, William. As an avid fan, I can think of 2 major plot threads that weren't tied up in the series that they may use one of the 3 proposed new movies to address. I can't wait to see it!
I'll be watching the Andromeda Strain remake as well. There are some good actors in it. |

The reviews are very mixed for Prince Caspian. Only 65% of the reviews compiled on Rotten Tomatoes are positive, which isn't very impressive. |
