An 11-year-old girl who gave birth on her wedding day while still dressed in a white gown and a tiara says she is excited to "have a new toy".

Kordeza Zhelyazkova from Bulgaria gave birth to 2.4kg baby girl Violeta last week but left the hospital with her newborn after only an overnight stay to finish the wedding ceremony, the News of the World reports.

The schoolgirl said she and 19-year-old husband Jeliazko Dimitrov met in the playground of her school in the industrial town of Sliven after he saved her from bullies.
Kordeza said the pair began a sexual relationship even though she did not know what a condom was and fell pregnant within a week of them meeting.
"I'm not going to play with toys anymore — I have a new toy now," she was quoted by the paper as saying.
"She is so beautiful, I love her ... Violeta is the child and I must grow up.
"I am not going back to school — I am a mother now."
Kordeza said she did not realise she was pregnant until her grandmother pointed out her weight gain.
"I just thought I'd eaten too many burgers," she said.
But Mr Dimitrov could be jailed for up to six years for having sex with a girl under 14.
"I'm scared ... I want to look after my wife and child ... instead I may be going to prison," he said.

"I made a mistake but I am not going to apologise for that because now I have beautiful Violeta."

Kordez said she was not planning on having any more children.

If this was "bible times" this would be normal....it's funny how "morals" change over the years.

It wouldn't have been unheard of but i'm not sure normal is the word. 11 is on the young end even in Bible times. And if you considered people were pretty much adults by 13 it's not really a comparison. Now you're a kid at 11 with no concept of what to do with a baby, as she tell us by calling it a toy.

In Bible times, the girl would typically be between twelve and thirteen, a mature woman who knew what to do with the world and those in it. By comparison, those in Bible times realized that men tend to (fact) mature more slowly, and were not considered ready or ABLE to care for a wife or family until they were around thirty.

It all comes down to how ready both emotionally and mentally one is to marry and give birth.

If this were Bible times, the man and his family would have paid a bride price for her, all legal, not touched her before the vows/ceremony and may also have agreed to not consummate the relationship after the vows until she was more mature.

If it was the case where he simply forced himself on the girl, he would still have to pay the bride price (perhaps more) endure shame for he and his family for doing so, be forced to marry her with the understanding he could never divorce her, seeing as how he devalued her worth/made her damaged goods, unable to require the normal bride price from any other man.

The interest even in those situations was a suitable and legal match that endured, not.... it's totally okay to rape/take advantage of little girls, which is what we see currently in the polygamy cults.
