Valediction posted an interesting link to Chuck Missler. I don't think that this was my first time coming across him, but the site is interesting to say the least.

Actually one of the things on his site that initially made the hair on the back of my neck was that he was discussing Bible codes, and UFO's on his site. Immediately, I thought uh oh, another crackpot.

But upon further investigation, his treatment of codes in the Bible was extremely interesting. I am curious what any of you all know about the existence of codes and amazing things which are hidden within the text. What I read, was indeed facinating. Perhaps one might say, someone had too much time on their hands, but you never know.

And just let others do all the talking.......i'll just say this:

1. I've been reading/following Missler's writings for about 2 decades now.

2. The man is no dummy.

3. Some of his thoughts I don't go for. Some of his thoughts I agree with.

Chuck Missler is a protégé of Jon Courson, of Applegate Christian Fellowship, which is an affiliate of Calvary Chapel.

He is perhaps best known for his lectures on Bible prophecy, and he often gravitates to the more arcane of Bible topics, but his finest work may be found among his earliest lectures, where he concentrated his studies primarily upon the exposition of Scripture.

My only exposure to the so-called "Bible codes" phenomena has been through the perspective of Harold Gans (Jewish Orthodox), and frankly, the subject has been of so little interest to me that I have never even bothered to investigate Missler's stand on the subject.

The problem with Bible codes is simply that there are no vowel markers in the original Hebrew... only consonants.

And so, in English, it would be akin to removing all the vowels from the passage of a book, and then inserting your own.

Now this is just a crude example, but if, for instance, you found the code "P" and "R", you could contrive all sorts of words, depending on how you decide to insert the vowels. Here are some that immediately come to mind:

PAIR
PER
PEER

PIAR
PIER
PIERRE
POOR
POUR
PRE-
PRO
PRY
PURR
UPPER

And so, depending on who is interpretting the code, the limits of creativity seem endless, which casts a dark shadow over the entire practice, in my opinion.

By simply inserting vowels and breaking the consonants up into words, an intelligent and creative person could cause the text to say almost anything.
