PostSubject: Prayer for a Job   Thu Sep 24, 2009 9:18 am

Hi guys,
Sorry I haven't posted as often as I used to, Just been kind of busy.
I have been lurking though.

So, I work for Arizona State Parks as a Network Admin. Here at Kartchner Caverns it is my boss Bill and I.
In Phoenix is our boss and about 8 other members of I.T.
The state like many others is having budget issues and is cutting jobs left and right.
They're are 18 job cuts coming Monday.
We met with our boss in Phoenix yesterday and he said even if (Me and my boss here on park) make it through the layoffs coming Monday, they're are another 16 layoffs coming in Jan/Feb, and another 10-15% of staff layoffs behind that.
He was pretty down on the state, and the state of our positions as well.
He advice was to start looking at a backup plan, and if you find something, take it because who knows how long we will be around.

It is certainly a scary thing to be facing a layoff, and I am not in the best of financial situations right now.
We are behind on several bills and living paycheck to paycheck.
This Job is nice, but it is not challenging anymore, and most of the time is spend surfing and waiting for something to break or for someone to have questions. I believe the layoffs are just a wake-up call to be ready to move on.

Saying all this, I am not feeling "Stressed"
I believe God has everything under control and will provide.

I have been at this Job for 6 years, and was 3 years providing Windows 2000 support for a Microsoft call center prior to this.
Right now I'm trying to decide is I want to stay in the same line of work, or branch out to something related, or possibly somehow start a home business.

Please pray with me that God will open doors and place me where he needs me.
Relocation is not really an option, but this is a midsized town and most Jobs in the tech field are supporting the military at Fort Huachuca through a subcontractor.

Ideally I would love to do computer support/network support for a church or other christian ministry.
Maybe something like Mars Hill church in Seattle http://www.marshillchurch.org/ or xxxchurch.com
That is only possible if telecommuting was an option.

So again, please pray that God will take control of this situation and place me where he wants.
Thanks again.

Background...
Computers are 2nd nature to me.
I have been working with them for 20+ years. I am comfortable building systems from scratch, training, troubleshooting, virus/spyware removal, etc....
I am the local GEEK, and spend much of my free time helping friends, family, and acquaintances with their computer issues... Often Free of charge. Many pay me in Soda and Candy (Not so good I know, but who can turn down a free Halloween sized bag of candy?)
Computers are my work, my hobby, and some would say my life.
I also dabble in video editing and graphic design in Photoshop and such as well as making professional slid shows for friends/family.
I would love to be self employed and just provide tech support, training, and slideshows as a living.
I also work on computers remotely using a program caller crossloop.

Thanks everyone.
It appears I made it through this round, as the people who got notified were called between 9 and 10:30am today, and told their last day would be next Friday, and they should come to a career counseling session on Monday.

However, I am still looking for a new position because there are 3 more rounds of layoffs coming, and honestly as much as I love my job, there is a lot of downtime/web surfing time.......And I think a challenge and change of pace could be refreshing..... not to mention the positions I'm seeing available also come with a nice bump in pay.

I understand what you are going through - I am starting to look for a job again myself - been with my current job almost 2 years and not seeing the opportunities to move up coming anytime soon.....
