Me too.....I agree.
Between (about) 1450 and 1650 ensued (about) 200 years of open religious warfare in Europe......that quite literally exhausted the continent and brought it to its knees.
Angel then said:
| Quote: | | I would think by now we could back off of trying to assert either is right to any degree that causes strife and let G-d be G-d is someone else's life. |
I shall agree to that statement also.
As I said to Candlemass and Snowy Owl in other threads.......and totally meant......."Whatever floats yer' boat theologically and doctrinally", and I emphasize, I mean that.
They--and any other RC member--can do whatever they want to worship GOD. It's the heart.
But......I don't have to like it. And......and, I don't have to believe in it or do it. Turn my saying to me. Whatever floats Greg's boat theologically and doctrinally.

I do it to GOD.
Me and GOD.
Period.
I don't/won't/refuse/shall ignore, any doctrine and/or organization that tells me I should preferably use an intermediary.
Looks like the RC to me.
Nah......i'll pass.
 |
Dood, confess to the moon for all I care, that was not my point, that one person was suggesting that those who practice this have not had a change of heart, hogwash, only the self rightious need not confess! |

| I hate message boards and the (lower) level of inter--personal communication they allow. My misunderstanding.

None of us.. Including the Pope.. But that is not the point bro.. Do I think the Catholic Confessional can establish true repentance? Sure I do. I have had many repentant experiences with Catholic clergy. However I do think that the Catholic Methodology of the Confessional can tend to get overly mechanical and result in people going through the motions rather than receive heart felt repentance from God. I do not personally agree with Priests being able to absolve sin, one of the multiple issues that I have with Canal Law, but I do think that the quality of the Confessional can be very proportional to the particular Priests relationship with God, when the quality of the repentance should be based on the individual's relationship with God. I mean if you have a Priest with a good personal relationship with God, he can really help an individual with a poor relationship with God. However you could have a Priest with a poor relationship with God (and there are plenty out there) and if a person has a good relationship with God they still can have a good experience in the Confessional. Where the big problem lies is when you have a Priest and an individual with poor relationships with Christ and that can be very counter productive..
But that's not to say that a person from any denomination can't get mechanical in their methodology and just walk though the motions. But I think that is why it is most important to advocate having a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ above all denominational methodology.. There are going to be people from every denomination that shall call out to the Lord in the day of judgment, "Lord Lord, we have done this and that in Your name.." and He will say "Depart from me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you" (Matthew 7:23). And it is not going to matter if you were Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Pentecostal, or what ever! It will only matter that you had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. So that is what I advocate most of all and that this message would cross denominational borders and establish stronger individual relationships with Jesus Christ through out all of Christendom by wearing The Full Armor Of God everyday!!

| I'm way late on this thread, but doesn't everyone who holds a particular doctrine believe this way to some extent? That those who DON'T believe as you do, are not in the 'full truth' so to speak? It doesn't seem that particular to Catholicism, outside the fact that they actually voice this opinion. _________________ ] |

A very wise man made a similar comment early in this thread when he said this:
| Quote: | | That's pretty much the same thing that most Protestants say about the Catholic Church. |

| My post about Uncle Edgar was serious. He did die in 1983. Once a year......on the anniversary of his passing......we fire up the old "Oz machine" in his memory.

| You can come, but the Larch has to stay at home. She drinks WAY too much, and we don't like getting pictures of her bare leaves in our e-mail right after the party. Besides, the Larch has the hots for me. She told me so. _________________
