| What are your thoughts on this?: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6_37rZuTeU
It's a "commercial" for a Jesus action figure. My favorite part is near the end with the ark of the covenant. I think it's pretty funny, but my guess is that some will be offended. I'd be curious to hear others' thoughts on this.
This is somewhat related to discussions in another thread concerning jokes about people or things we hold up as sacred or especially close to our heart. |

| | It's not as cool as the plush, huggable Jesus doll that was sold in some Christian bookstores back in '96, which looked suspiciously like John Lennon. It doesn't bother me that much. Look at how much Mel Brooks pokes fun at his own Judaism in his movies, and Christianity for that matter. Whenever he does it, the tone is lighthearted rather than malicious. IMHO, as long as humor isn't mean-spirited and doesn't turn into outright ridicule, I think it's okay. I'm secure enough in my faith that a humorous take on it won't shake it. |

Bingo and spot on. That matches my thoughts exactly.
This commercial in that vid?? Amusing.
It is going to take more to make me incensed and feel that my LORD has been insulted maliciously. This is not it.

| The ad reminds me of the Historical Books class I took in Bible college. The prof split the class into small groups, each of which had to reenact one of the stories in the form of a skit. It was mandatory to come up with innovative ways to 'look the part.' He allowed them to make the skits humorous, if they so desired, as long as they studied the story thoroughly and addressed all of the main points.
One of the most memorable reenactments involved the account of Israel's rebellion against Rehoboam from 1 Kings 12. The gal who played king Rehoboam braided all of her long, brown hair together in the front so that it looked like a kingly beard, which was hilarious, not to mention very clever. Other faculty members assisted with these skits, which were not only fun, but effective teaching tools. Some of the more 'ultra-fundy' killjoys wouldn't participate and labeled the skits 'sacrilegious.' Go figure. |

Go figure indeed.
Sacrilegious?? Whatever.
Some people need a life. Or at the least......a sense of humor.

That was too funny!!!
I personally love jokes about Biblical times (as long as they aren't malicious. Infact, my favorite Sam Kinison bit is when he talks about Jesus. _________________ Romans 6:1-23

| I found this Jesus action figure once at the dollar general that sort of looks like Bob Seger, and has a priest collar. He came with a flat plastic mat thing about 5 inches long that seemed to detail in one small space everything a Jesus would need - a cross, a cave, a hill.
I will find this and photograph it for your amusement. _________________ Dark motions, black eyes, and mournful lust, the wings of solitude ...I'm the hateful raven

That description alone makes my day Just wanted to say in terms of offensive images since I contributed to that other thread the only one I found truly disturbing and unecessary in my Google image search was a kiddo-type coloured pencil drawing which depicted Jesus nude and receiving oral from Pikachu. There are plenty of these (Shred's example) type images of Jesus in Google. _________________ The closer you are too having only one fan, the closer you are too Trooness.

That's not surprising. The late Sam Kinison was a licensed Assemblies of God evangelist before he learned that raunchy comedy was where the real gravy is made. He never seemed to have the balls to blaspheme, despite his profanity. I loved when he played Al Bundy's guardian angel on the Married with Children spoof of It's a Wonderful Life. Apparently, he rededicated his life to Christ shortly before his death. I hope that's true. We'll find out in eternity, won't we. |

| It seemed to me to be making fun of the whole thing. I am not offended, but sad for those who made it. It is the gospel of Christ that He came, died on the cross and was raised. The Bible says it is foolishness to those who are perishing, and that commercial certainly, to me, makes it seem like the creators think the whole thing is foolishness. If this makes me an "ultra fundy", then so be it. |

If you ever get the chance, watch the documentary "Why Did We Laugh". It's about Sam Kinison, of course. I had it but I think someone stole it from me at some point. _________________ Romans 6:1-23

| My friend just bought me one of these:

It comes complete with a miracle kit that includes five loaves, two fish, and a jar for turning water into wine.
I've got Jesus standing on my desk watching me while I work. Sweet! When I get hungry I'm gonna have him get me some dinner.
EDIT: I didn't realize it at first, but his hands glow in the dark, too. Here is the full product description:
