Ok, so here I was, trying to pack for road trip to Oregon and my niece's h.s. grad and something wasn't feeling quite right. I had this feeling since the previous evening when my son's father told me he was meeting today with a rep from this Fortune 500 company that recently bought up the textile company he worked for.


It wasn't any sort of shock when he informed me this afternoon that they eliminated his dept and he no longer has a job. The severance package is generous and fair (so far), we've just paid some larger bills, we have tax return fund$ on reserve so there is no immediate danger of abject poverty or anything. We can work all of that out.

I know I'm probably not supposed to be excited at a time like this but I'll confess that I am because I really see it as God about to do some cool stuff in His life. When I got really burnt out on church a few years back, he just backed away from his walk as well. Even though I'm excited, going through changes and re-structuring of this sort can take it's own toll. I'm sure some of you know what I mean by that.

I covet your prayers and thank you in advance for them.

That's a good attitude to have and one I lack when things are tough. I'll certainly pray.

Just an update...

When my son was first born, his dad was toying with the idea of having his own business, tho he really didn't want to carry all the paper and sell, just install.


All these years later, the situation in this thread has forced him to bite that bullet. SO, he is back to work but the work comes to him, he's charging what he is actually worth and not putting upp with the salaried nonsense.

AFTER going ahead to invest $1600 (same as our rent) for necessary insurance coverage plus a few hundred more in bizness license, the company that let him go, used him to do a repair on another guy's installation. They then turned around and pretended they never authorized it in spite of much documentation to the contrary and were refusing to pay him. The job is now not finished so the customer will not sign off on it and is not happy. The company has tried to then NOT use him on a couple other jobs because he insisted that he be paid for sevices rendered. It's been nice to see that the some of the clients have told them they don't want anyone else or they will not do business with this company, but be that as it may, they currently owe him $4150. Granted, there is a common time frame ( not right away ) for billing/invoicing and receiving payment and he'd rather *not* go to small claims over this small amount, particularly since there was ( not any longer) a $BIGG$ jobb looming in the horizon that he would be used for..but you know what??

The way I see it, they're taking away from my kidd and conducting plain badd business practice.

Our landlord is not giving us any sort of notice ..but as of now, we have nothing to pay our August rent/utilities with.

He has contacted other manufacturers and sent resumes to those who asked. He has a very good reputation in this business and I'm sure it will turn around somehow but he is scared and depressed, feeling he cannot provide for his family, perhaps he may have to do something else after laying out all that ca$h.

Until school started (this week) we were all getting cabin fever and annoyed being around each other, (plus the situation) causing us to feel trapped I guess.

I'm still "excited" in the sense that this is growth experience, one that I believe is designed to increase/stretch his faith..(mine too) but the birth pains, the transition are taking it's toll.

I appreciate it so very much to have folks stand with us in this time.

ok...since the last update

There have been two interviews, two small jobbs done, several requests for quotes on jobbs that will start soon and HOPEFULLY that $2600 issue has been remedied..finally.Waiting for the check now.

The landlord is not so casual any longer (understandable)

Since praying for the Operations Manager at the old jobb who has withheld this $2600, a sales manager there has gone to batt for us, saying that even if the client is not happy with some *other* aspects of what they promised him so he is now withholding payment to them, this particular work was still completed long ago and needs to be paid. The indication the ops mngr gave him is the owner of the company will not authorize this payment, tho we just received a small check from them today for another job.

Now praying for the owner and her family. Join me??

The landlord has not called or shown upp like we were expecting him to... nor have any of his family members (unannounced)

I've been praying that they find some unexpected windfall that takes him out of having to worry so much about this non-payment of rent (going on 4 months now) and that they are all blessed/taken care of.

That being said, I don't imagine I will not find a notice on my door in the next week or so.... I'd love to be able to show him that check at the very least and am praying for mercy and favor and for his willingness to have us as tenants continue.

The bills are relatively small so we've been able to keep upp with that so far but the shut-off notices are starting to roll in. I used to go pay them before they were even due and now they are all past due. Oh well.

Praise...glimmers of hope...A few requests for quotes have come in, a few have been accepted and those are waiting on scheduling. That totally hinges upon access to certain rooms, usually guest rooms and meeting rooms in hotels...so if the hotels are doing well and experiencing plenty of occupancy, that indicates they can pay BUT... it's MUCH harder for him to get in there, measure windows, do repairs, take down old treatments for remodelling or install new treatments.

Praying for favor and openings in the schedule...QUICKLY!!!

We've applied for unemployment insurance, which *if* it is awarded, takes care of rent and most of the household bills, hopefully giving us a chance to breathe, re-group and re-build our solvency.The paperwork for that got screwed upp in a crucial way by whoever processed it. Somehow it said he indicated he was NOT available for FT work in his field when the application he showed me said the exact opposite. We have a phone interview to clarify this .....on the 18th of November.

Also..There are a few programs that can help us with rental assistance:
A. Only after we receive a notice to pay rent or quit/eviction notice.
and B.Only if they have full assurance that we can pay our own rent after that.

I'm stumped ... but I DO know God is good and I continue to look to Him to turn around this situation. I praise and thank Him in advance for providing for ALL of our needs, according to His glorious riches in Christ.
