| Writing songs is fun. Recording is a blast. Why does mixing, and making sure that everything sounds like you want it to on the finished project, have to be so blessed difficult? It makes me want to pull what's left of my hair right out! AAARRRGGGGG!!!!! I feel like hitting someone.......but this will have to suffice: _________________

| Not sure, but if it won't mix, try emulsification! |

| Yes!! I need help on mixing bass. It seems it's too much bass eq but when I change it I lose the fullness of the bass. _________________ Awesome Quote by DRReeves " Yet superficial Western Christians are always getting hung up on what Christianity looks like, or sounds like, or dances like. There can't ever be too much bass. |

The problem might be you have to much bass in all of your tracks. Try making room for the bass. Cut the lows on your guitars at about 80 Hz. Do a low cut on your bass and kick drum at 40 Hz. See if that helps. Don't be afraid to add some hi-mids to your bass as well. I have started another thread for these questions check it out. |

| Very cool advice. I will try that. My problem does seem to be getting the bass and bass drum at volumes I like in the mix. _________________

| Then go buy a tabletop digital recorder like me. You can just push buttons and rock! _________________

I am wondering the same thing. I know NOTHING about recording and a friend of mine and I have been getting closer and closer to the recording stage with some of the concepts we have come up with ... I've been thinking of going the tabletop digital recorder route ... are these things pretty user friendly?? Like I said, I know NOTHING. _________________ ... a chill rises from the soil ... ... and contaminates the air ... ... suddenly ... ... life has new meaning ... |

| Minus the new speaker stands I bought today, here is my set up. The board is a Korg D3200 32 track recorder. You CAN plug your guitar (or bass, drums, vocals, etc.) directly into it. For the guitar, though, you might want to get something like the POD that you see standing above the board. You can dial in a plethora of guitar sounds without having to mic your amp. While the Korg does have a really thick user's manual, it's pretty simple to activate the individual tracks to record. There is also a built in click track so that you can record without drums but keep yourself in time. Trust me--I'm an idiot. But, using something like this is pretty easy. No, it's not child's play, and it takes some effort to really learn how to get a good sound. There are, however, lots of musicians here who can help one another with tips and tricks regardless of whether you go with digital recorder or computer recording.

| | Thanks guitarhoops. How would that Edirol system you posted compare with something such as Mbox 2 Protools. Do they have the same functions and ability to edit tracks the same etc.? I don't know anything about this, but I know somebody who just bought this Mbox 2, and I'm wondering whether it is basically the same thing or if there is a difference between these two recording systems. Thanks! |

| | The M-box is a good system. They have the same capabilities. The learning curve on the progam is a little harder. And the hardware is a little more fussier with what it requires. |
