PostSubject: Recommend me a cymbal   Fri Jan 11, 2008 12:07 am

I'm looking at getting a good ride cymbal in the next few weeks, what would anyone recommend? I'm kind of partial to Zildjian, but I'm not married to them. Something that goes well with a loud classic metal style would be perfect.

Nick, I would go to a nearby music store and go to their drum department. If you have a Guitar Center, they will have a cymbal room that will allow you to go in and play what they have in stock to see how it will sound. I would recommend that. Then, go online and buy it cheaper.

Zildjian Z series is a good durable cymbal for heavy hitting, but it lacks brightness. It's got a litte bit of a trash-can sound. I prefer the A series but of course they are not as strong. Have you looked into the "Thrash" cymbal by Zildjian? I haven't had a chance to try it. Let me know if you beat me to it.

You're a funny, funny man. Razz

I'd have a three hour trip ahead of me to do that myself, but someone on another forum did that very thing. Here is his recommendation:

Quote:

I want this one. . .It sounds like 10 different cymbals, depending on where and how you hit the dang thing. I spent 20 minutes playing just this one cymbal last time I was at my local G.C.

I'll look into that Thrash cymbal as well. Sounds interesting.

You live out in the boonies, then! I thought I was out! It takes me less than an hour to go to Guitar Center. There are several smaller shops I can go to that are closer, but their prices are higher and the inventory lower. So, I go on into Nashville unless I just need some strings.

I like my cymbals--100% made of plastic! I love electrics!

I use a Zildjian 20" A Custom Ping Ride. Great sounding cymbal IMO!
There is no "the best" ride though... it's personal preference to some
degree. I like the A series and the K series.

If you want to hear it... go to my myspace and I have up 2 songs we
recently recorded. I used the 20" ping ride. Listen to the song "In
Heaven" as it has a LOT of ride in it. It's used in both songs.

I had the opportunity to go to a GC over the weekend and test out a few
cymbals. That Zildjian Light Ride is DEFINTELY in the lead at this
point. Several others were good, but none impressed my as much as that
one.
