...ok, so it's not a Marshall. Infact, it's a Peavey. I never EVER thought I'd buy a Peavey until I heard good quality audio of a 5150, then a 6550. As I understand it this is the predecessor to the 5150. Peavey VTM 120 It is often compared to the JCM 800, which is one I was looking at, but whether it is better or worse varies from person to person. Right now I'm just happy to have a tube amp.

I remember those! Seems like Rex Carrol was using those at one time just before he went to the Rockmaster pre and the 50/50. I played a PAG series Triumph for a while back then and that whole series sounded pretty good. My Triumph had all kinds of switching issues though and wouldn't stay together ( got sent back to Peavy THREE times and I traded it in for a Marshall when it came back that third time!!). That one being a single channel amp should be fine though. Nice score!!

If Rex Carroll Played one, it's got to be good Unfortunately these pictures are from the ebay auction that ended tonight so I can't talk about it from personal experience But with the other 3 members of my band gone next week, I'll have plenty of time to experiment. The bad thing is that after I buy gas This week, I'll only have $6.

One of our guys used to have a 5150 - great amp. Peavey has certainly made some good stuff over the years. One of their bass pre-amps is near legendary! Congrats!

| Those are supposed to be decent amps, IF your are looking for something similar to a JCM 800, but weith more gain. Also, they apparently get bone rattlingly loud. Have fun. _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

Good sound! I'm really amazed at how much I recognize that ole Peavey sound! I can hear shades of my Citation. Good playing too!

Isn't the VTM the amp with those crazy little dip switches? If so, have you messed with those much, lifemetal777? I hear they can make quite a difference in the tone.

Bl4cFoxx: Thanks a lot man. If you haven't seen my various posts around here, check out my band Sardis www.myspace.com/sardisband. I also used this amp on the first 2 songs we have up, but there are multiple tracks and extra eq and processing, so they sound different. 6stringgrind: Yep, that's the one! They do make a huge difference. I have a setting I really like, it has a ton of Bassy chug without making it sound like mush, all the highs are clear... but I can't record that way, because as of now I've not found a mic that can correctly capture it. However, the settings you hear on the crazy train cover I like probably as much (there's just not as much chug. With the other setting, things fall off my shelves.) My band has nicknamed the amp "The Beast".

I had a VTM120 head and cab back when they were new models. In fact, that amp is the reason I swore I'd never buy a thing from Peavey again! Then they put out the JSX and that thing is a MONSTER!! Which is why I bought a Carvin Legacy. I know, that doesn't make sense.

Strange... I love my VTM to death. It's the reason I am a Peavey convert. Of course, I've never played through the matching cab.
