| Do you typically learn better by studying yourself or by being worked with "hands on"? If I were to really want to better my playing, I'd get the DVDs because I can work at my pace, skip the parts that I already know, and just learn what's needed. But, you do what is best for you. _________________ "I have no desire to speak w/other tongues, I already do enough damage w/the one I have!!" - Candlemass |

| As long as I have wanted to learn guitar, I have always thought that 'Metal Method' would be the way to go....... _________________ Forever stronger than all....through Him!

I've done both....I was taking lessons from a professional a couple years ago, stopped the lessons and then last year, got "Metal Method" and tried it and did a few of the lessons. On one hand I do like taking one-on-one lessons because I think it will keep me on my toes with practicing, but on the other hand, I like the convenience of learning at home with the DVD on my own time. So I am trying to decide which way is the best way to go, figuring there's people here who've either taken lessons or did the DVD. Thanks for your feedback. Texanvfg, you just might want to try the DVD. |

| As a guitar instructor I say do both......There are reasons people pay for one on one lessons and one reason would be human interaction, If your struggling with something a live teacher can take the time to help you work through it......A DVD can be played at 3 in the morning when you cant sleep and are bored Live teacher can gear your lessons towards your style and what you need. A DVD is a pay once type deal.......If your really serious....do both. |

| I'd say go for the Metal Method DVD's. I can't praise their worth and instruction enough. I started on them back in 83(when they were only on cassette!!) and have been through the entire course and it's just great!! I took private lessons for a few months back in 83 then straight into metal method and it's made me the player I am today. I got good enough from metal method instruction that I received a music scholarship to college. Not to mention the pure joy I receive from playing and knowing what I'm doing. Starting in on my 25th year of metal guitar I can say that metal method made me a better guitarist. To prove my point, just listen to some of the stuff I did on PastorBrad's Shred, Reshredded and Shredded Sweet CD's, and my demo. All because of Doug Marks great lessons.. They've even helped me to appear on Glory Rock Vol 1 and 2 and to get some nice reviews of my playing from Dennis Cameron and Tony Palacios(who are my guitar heros). I need to stress here, I'm not tooting my own horn. That is not my intention. Along with the instruction of Metal Method, I could not achieve the level I'm at now without the glorious grace of Lord Jesus Christ.. He is the reason I do play, and He has opened the doors I've been able to go through with my playing. He alone has given me the talent to play and I believe anyone with a desire to play has that God Given Talent.. Just summing up that you cannot go wrong with Doug's Metal Method course!! It's all I've used for the past 25 years and it's just phenomenal. God Bless and Good luck in future musical projects.... Andy(gtr1963) |

| I did a drawing of Doug Marks once in high school. Does that count? OK, I'm a drummer. I'll shut up, now. _________________ “If you make less than $250,000 your taxes will not go up. | Thre are some really good players that give net lessons. Dave Wiener from the Steve Vai band comes to mind. www.daveweiner.com Chris Broderick gave net lessons up until his new Megadeth schedule got in the way. Even George Lynch gives private net lessons. |
