This is a TOUGH subject to give advice on. I am certainly not qualified and I have written all my bands lyrics.

What I will tell you is to draw as much as you can from personal experience, that way they sound genuine.

If you simply want to write poetic sounding songs where the words are almost as musical as the melody, then pick up a good thesaurus. It will become your best friend.

A few pieces of advice I can give. Take a look at the sort of songs whose lyrics you really like and try and get a feel for how they break down in the rhythm of the song. It should help keep you mindful of fitting the meter. Read poems and other songs for different fuel on how to structure a line. Of course all this is technical advice (it comes from being an english major lol).

At the end of the day, it's gonna come down to being honest in what you're writing about. Figure out what topics hit close to home for you and write what comes out. Don't be afraid to change them. Like lifemetal said, a thesaurus is your best friend, because it'll help you match the lines up to the song.

Look for inspiration and write what relates to you the best.

Start "collecting" phrases, you know a turn of words that catches you ear. They can become inspiration or actual lines. Think about how many different ways you can explain the same concept. Eventually, some of them will start fitting together in a poetic/musical way. At least that works for some of my writings. Keep at it!!

Some good advice here.

Are you writing as a part of a band, or just on your own?

Something you might try is to take some of the musical ideas of your
bandmates and try coming up with the vocal melody first, then try to
tailor your lyrics to that structure. It can save time spent rewriting
because your lines are too long (or too short).
