Subject: Any hints for teaching music? Mon Sep 28, 2009 11:06 am
So in my present desperation to find a job i am going to attempt to overcome my fear of teaching music and give teaching piano lessons a shot. I've been playing keyboards for going on 13 years now...all my training is classical Royal Conservatory but i have never even attempted to teach before. Anyone have any advice for me?

Good thread. I've been playing guitar since about 1983. Never gave a lesson before. Recently my wife's friend's son wanted some guitar lessons and I had no idea where to start.

I have taught for 12 yrs and up until about a year ago I taught full time and made an ok living at it. Pm me and I can give a whole bunch of tips and ideas. There is a lot more to teaching then being good at your instrument.

I have been teaching for 10 years now. It is always shaky at first. Start with beginner students until you start feeling comfortable with your teaching. Find some good books to teach out of. I can't recommend any because I teach guitar. Try not be to impatient and be flexible. You may have to approach each student a little differently. I hope this helps a little.
