| Back in the late 80's I drooled over the carvin catalogs and wanted a DC400 or V220 in Sapphire blue Flame with a Floyd. I wound up with a 89 DC200 in Sapphire flame i bought used in 1991 but still wanted that elusive V220R in Sapphire Flame. I have never even seen a V220 with a Floyd style trem in that color until two weeks ago when TWO surfaced for sale at the same time!! One with a real Floyd and the in line headstock and one with the Kahler Killer fulcrum system and a Reverse in line headstock. I snagged tthe one with the real Floyd and got it yesterday. 1989 Carvin V220R abalone block inlay Sapphire Flame and black hardware. It plays like BUTTER and sounds HUGE! Needless to say I'm STOKED over this one ! Here are a couple of photos and one with that"rest" of tha "family"

| That guitar is definitely a beauty, Ascension. Sadly, those and the Carvin V's have ALWAYS felt as if they were upside down to me Still a gorgeous plank, though! Good score. _________________

I don't like the neck feel on the new Carvins myself. These 88-92 neck through Carvins are MUCH different animals from what they make now. These guitars all have super fast ultra slim shreadder necks. These have super flat 15 radius boards and a neck that feels a lot like the old pre Fender Jackson necks except IMO the Carvins play a LOT better than the old Jacksons do. These was a reason guys like Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Joey Tallifola, Glen Tamplton, and Lanny Cordola were ALL Carvin endorsees back in that era. It's a shame that while Carvin will reissue the V 220 and Ultra V in looks but won't reissue these shreadder necks for um to play like they look. |

| This reminds me of how I wanna find one of those blue Ibanez XV guitars from the 80's...

| Nice snag Ascension! I love those V220's, especially the pointy ones. I have an Ultra V (1992). It is a metal machine IMO. It has the Kahler "steeler" floyd bridge.
OCI, I too would like to run across one of those old Ibanez as well. _________________

I love the Kahler Steeler systems I have that trem on the solid black 91 X220C. IMO they sound and feel better than a "real" Floyd I wish they would reissue those now that Kahler is back. I know a guy over at Kahler who was with Carvin at one time and I have talked to him about those trem systems. The two pointy ones are X220C's not V220's. The X220's are just Ultra V's with top horns and they have the same tail contours neck and fret access as your Ultra V does. The V220's are a little different larger more rounded and being solid maple are HEAVY! The Blue V220 weighs in at around 12 lbs the Pink X220 around 5! |

| Now that I didnt know dude. Thanks for the info! Ive always thought the X220's looked so metal. If they have the same fret access that the ultra Vs have then wow! Looks AND killer action.....perfect combo. _________________

| | Very cool I'd like to get one of those as well. Last one I saw was back in 1986 I think it was just an ad for them and the guy from Jefferson Starship was endoresing it. It was a white one with a Khaler. Should have tried to get one then... |
