You might want to help the bass player out a bit by figuring out what chords and rhythm you would play under the lead. AFter all, when you record this, you'll probably want a rhythm guitar track or two during the lead break just to keep there from being this huge hole in the song. Having that rhythm worked out will allow the bass player to craft his licks to what you are doing there. Then when you play this song live, he will have a detailed rhythm part that will carry the song during your leads.
