It's the first full Savatage cd I ever heard, and the one it took me the longest to get into. lately, I've been spinning it quite a bit.

My only complaint is the later part is full of ballads.

I see this disc get slagged quite a bit but for me it's one of my Savatage favorites. I love the concept of it and could see it as a full blown musical.

Sometimes I feel like it just should have been that instead of an album actually. I've never felt like the band really gels on here somehow, and the way the lyrics are, some of them come off less than graceful, maybe if they were written in a different context there would be more space... the band thing actually seems to limit this somehow. It doesn't always for concept albums, but it feels that way on this one. Some songs just work wonderfully. 'If I Go Away' for example. But 'Sammy and Tex', stuff like that.... isn't happening for me.

Probably the most inconsistent album for me.

I have to say though I barely see anyone ever give it less than a near
perfect rating..

Oh, I do. I'm with toho, I see people bagging on it a lot.

I agree with a lot of what you said though.

Not my favorite either.

Valid point OCI. In fact, it does really sound like a hired band doing a musical. That said, I still like it.

I have always liked it, and Marie LOVES it (she is a Sava-fan...).

All I know is Tonight He Grins Again is on it and that right there is enough to make me like it.

Outstanding album! And complain about "Believe"? That's one of the best ballads ever written, period!

I like parts of it, but found it a little dull. There are some GREAT songs on it though. My favorite is believe--great lyrics too.

This is one of my alltime favorite albums ever! I really get touched by lyrics on this one and Criss just shreds out of this world!

Can we trade wives? lol!

It's not my favorite either, but it does hold my favorite Sava-tune, Believe.

My first Sava album, and it almost killed my interest in them. Some
killer songs like Believe, Tonight He Grins Again, etc... but a whole
lot of filler as well and a lame and disjointed story line.

The title track is an OK song, but a really poor album opener, IMO.
