People everywhere say flat out that he is the best vocalist that ever lived. If this is so, then why is he so unoriginal sounding? Anybody ever listen to Coverdale sing? And I hate when people compare him to Russell Allen, because Allen can smoke him in just about every aspect. Russell has more power, emotion, range and overall has an original voice. Not only that, Jorn's music is also unoriginal and sounds just like any others 80s band. Also, Jorn's lyrics are immature and talk about love making and stuff that really makes cheesy lyrics. He also doesn't know how to pronounciate his words right when he sings. He has a decent style down, but he doesn't sound original in the process.

Also, the repeated line of 'dancing upon/on the world' that he's used in lyrics for DIFFERENT BANDS is irritating. It's just too big a phrase to keep using over and over and over...

Actually a small percentage of Jorn's lyrics are about "love making" and they fit his personality and who he is. It's not like you are listening to Poison or Motley Crue. He also has lots of deeply spiritual lyrics and I think his new album will really reflect that. Vocally there are few that can touch him. He may not be the most original but his voice is one of the best I have ever heard.

I think despite the subject matter that sometimes the lyrics are just slightly goofy and 'swing' too much, in more of a hard rock way. That's a thin line for me... I like some of it, and some aspects of it, but when it's done a certain way a certain amount I just sort of go 'ick'. One of many reasons I have a hard time with Lande Masterplan.

I don't love or hate his voice. It's ok. In the world of Melodic Metal it's one of the better ones though I like DC better and no one touches Coverdale in his prime.

I'm with Sage...I can't for the life of me understand what people rave about. I got Masterplan's MKII album and was blown away. I decided to pick up one of their earlier discs (with Jorn on vocals), and it was boring. The vocals were just flat to me.

Jorn is in that top teir with DC Cooper, Rob Rock, and a few others where I just can't believe how good they are.

I like him most in Masterplan.

I understand the DC thing even less than I do the Jorn thing. He is certainly good from a technical standpoint but the way he anunciates things, the odd, slightly nasal accent thing he has (despite being American) is really really distracting for me. It just seems like it doesn't allow for enough dynamic... just don't like the sound.


Rob Rock I *do* get although he's not in the same list for me.

I guess whatever it is in Jorn, DC, and similar that moves me must grate you, because I find them very similar at times.

What about the singer for Ride The Sky? To me he's a spot-on Jorn sound-alike. Also, At Vance and Evergrey singers also have that oddly smooth and rough whiskey soaked (when needed) melodic voice that I put in the same category.

Tom Englund is great, although Evergrey has been sort of sterile to me for a while. I haven't heard the Ride the Sky singer..

I'd put John West (ex-Artension, ex-Royal Hunt) for example in the same category too but I really like John West. DC just has a bizarre, almost syrupy timbre to his voice that makes me uggggg.

I like him because he isn't as 'metal' as some other singers mentioned in this thread. I like that he is going more Whitesnake style hard-rock. The only thing that is starting to bother me is that he is on SO MANY projects as guest vocalist. I'd like to see him just stay with one thing for a while.

Ark - Burn the Sun is my favorite album he appears on, BUT, I enjoy his singing the most on Millenium - Hourglass, which, if anyone hasn't heard it, it's sort of a more classic metal Whitesnake, some early 80's Rainbow in there (complete with Don Airey on guest keyboards)....there is some yucky cheese, but also some super great melodic hard rock/heavy metal songs.

I think when it comes to metal vocalist some just spread themselves out thru to many bands. I think they fit a certain style and a certain band they can sometimes be over saturated.

Not saying he is bad but he fits a certian style of band mates!

And I forgot to mention - Jorn Lande REALLY sucks on the new Ayreon album. I hate when he sings the word "comotose"...it makes me cringe. And I think he's been eating too many snack cakes.
