I was a HUGE fan of these dudes years ago!! I may be wrong, but this was the first time I had ever heard the phrase "Black Metal" before. Do you think they coined the phrase???



I saw them at the Cleveland Agora years ago with The Misfits, Celtic Frost & Suicidal Tendencies.. A young Slayer opened the show.

From reading the book "The Rise and Fall of Heavy Metal" I believe you are correct. they coined the term. What was that? '83, '84?

And it's Venom. The thread title was spelled wrong.

I used to really be into Venom. Had a bunch of their albums. I even had the Here Lie Venom boxset on vinyl. Then after years of listening I realized that all their songs sounded alike and I just stopped listening to them. LOL

The album Black Metal was released in 1982. So I guess that is the best starting point for the coining of the term.
