| http://uk.sonispherefestival.net/2009/06/slipknot-to-release-new-album-in-2010/Chris Fehn has announced that Slipknot's next album will be released in the coming year. I can't wait. I hope it has elements from the self titled, the heaviness of Iowa, and the guitar riffs of All Hope Is Gone. I want it to be their most brutal and technical album. Anyone have any light to shed on this subject? Post it here. |

| Heard about it. I have friends who know a couple of the guys and it sounds like it is going to be pretty similar to the last release. Arttie _________________ Constitutional separation of church and state is a lie; it is a figment of the secular-progressive's imagination.

| You're not going to find a whole lot of enthusiasm on the subject of Slipknot's greatness on this board, I'm afraid. There's actually not a whole lot of "metalcore" type bands (not calling Slipknot "metalcore" per se, but that IS the class their sound falls most easily into....)discussed round these parts.....the average age (which I'd put at late-30's, early 40's)here just puts us at a demographic that generally doesnt' "do" the style.... I DO like the style and sound a LOT, and I listen to LOTS of things some folks would think are "off limits".....but Slipknot simply isn't one of them. Never could get into them. _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

| Slipknot may not be for all the old heads on this board, of which I am one, but they are pretty good. What is it that people don't like about them? The masks? The cool, brutal riffs? The intense drumming? The vocals? I can see you guys not liking the vocals because they don't sing in a high falsetto voice and sing about dragons and wizards. But for the style they are the vocals are good. And he has a good clean voice. Really, have you listened to more than 20 seconds of one song? Or is this board just full of 80's hair metal snobs? |

| I don't mind them, especially their third album. I far prefer them to any black metal band out there!!! I think "Sulfur" is a cool song, personally. Arttie _________________ Constitutional separation of church and state is a lie; it is a figment of the secular-progressive's imagination.

It's all opinion. Slipknot just absolutely FAILS to trip my trigger. Too much other stuff out there. Same with Bullet For My Valentine and Five finger Death Punch. They wouldn't make my list of top 50 discs from the last 2 years, and I listen to a LOT of stuff in their style. I'd rather listen to Anders wail away on the last couple In Flames discs...which is funny, because I will readily admit Corey Taylor has the better voice. I'd rather listen to Trivium or God Forbid or Lamb of God or Decrepit Birth or theFaceless or Skeletonwitch or The Red Chord or Between the Buried and Me or Demon Hunter or...................(Ican keep going if i really need to.....)
Note that I haven't even STARTED on the "falsetto; sings about dragons" type stuff.......
Broad tastes.....and slipknot just doesn't hit with me..... _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

I'll start. Next to cookie monster, WOOOOAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! vocals, falsetto is my least favorite style of vocals. Ever notice I seldom talk about Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Gamma Ray and the like? It's because I'm not a fan of male vocals that sound like they came from the Vienna Boys Choir. There...another stereotype down the drain. _________________ "The banner of loud and rebellious music will never die. It just gets older." - GODSWIZARD

Influences and styleSid Wilson and Shawn Crahan at a concert in Wisconsin in 2005. The band have stated that their primary influences include Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Slayer, Judas Priest, Korn, AC/DC, Kiss and Beastie Boys. [84][85][86][87] Death metal, black metal and heavy metal have been mentioned as a key influence on the band's musical direction alongside nu metal, the category the band is generally listed as. [88][89][90][91] They have also stated that they are influenced by industrial bands like Head of David, Godflesh and Skinny Puppy as well as Neurosis and jungle music like Roni Size. [92][93]Slipknot are seen as pioneers of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal developing a lean and aggressive brand of metal formed from thrash, metalcore and death metal. In this they can be compared with groups such as Pantera, Machine Head, Biohazard, Life of Agony, and Prong and are known for often chaotic and energetic live shows. [94][95][96] The extreme performance style provided by their large line-up featuring a typical heavily down-tunedguitar set-up (lead, rhythm, and bass guitars), two percussionists in addition to the primary drummer, and electronics (samplers and turntables). [97] Robert Cherry of Rolling Stone compared the band's sound to "a threshing machine devouring a military drum corps". [50]Their early work hosted a diverse range of vocal styles, ranging from rapping to occasional singing to growled vocals. [97] In more recent work, this vocal style remains present, but now includes more melodic singing. [49] The lyrics generally follow a very aggressive tone and feature themes such as darkness, nihilism, anger, disaffection, love, misanthropy and psychosis. [13][49] Rick Anderson of Allmusic regards the group's lyrics as "not generally quotable on a family website". [27]There has been controversy surrounding Slipknot's lyrics, including a case in which a pair of young killers blamed the lyrics from the song "Disasterpiece" for their vicious crime [98] and a case in 2006 in which lyrics from the song "Surfacing" were found at the site of a grave robbing Sounds Metal to me. Doesn't mean i'll listen to them.As Exo said, I have a lot of other bands to chose from.

Yeah, I've listened to 3 of their albums. IOWA was easily the best one IMO. Joey is a good drummer, and I like the fact he is often plugging decent death metal bands to the younger crowd. He's INTO his metal, same as most of us. Having said all that, Slipknot is well outside my top 100 bands, if I could be bothered adding them all up... _________________ "We all like what we like; no condemnation here just because our likes might have some differences" - tohostudios

| I'm one of the 80's metal fanatics who would much rather hear a good power ballad and melodic metal over Slipknot anytime. Look, I live in the surrounding area of where Slipknot are from and live. So yes I have been exposed to Slipknot for many years. I think the whole mask gimmicks that they have are getting old and have really run it's course. Yes, I have never listened to a full Slipknot album but have heard enough to conclude they just aren't my cup o tea. Just not into that style of music. I much prefer straight ahead hard rock/modern rock/melodic metal/commercial rock over them |

| HAHAHAHAHA.... I knew my reply would get alot of response. You took the bait there, GW, exactly what I expected from reading your other posts around the board. Touch a nerve? Anyway, it's all a matter of taste anyway. I like Slipknot, don't love em. Wouldn't go out and buy thier album before I'd buy the new Steve Vai or maybe a Beatles CD I don't have yet. |

Good for you that you like Slipknot....but you know what? Not everyone does and I don't think you were being respectful of that. With all due respect, you came off as arrogant in that post above. You shouldn't put down those us us who don't like Slipknot and imply that people who don't like them are nothing more than 80's hair metal snobs (as if that's a bad thing.) |

But that's ok, right? |
