...in this case, the word "pop" used is in conjunction with the word "poser"; in Skillet's case, a very popular and well-executed bunch of posers...you tend to find them a lot in the CCM industry...

| Quote: | In the first interview I ever read with Skillet in HM magazine they talked about how they weren't really into the rock music they played (they're classically trained); rather, they just tried to play music well that would appeal to a big audience (i.e. grunge at the time they started). As musical artists, that makes them pop artists. |
...now, you see, there's a difference between music experimentation, and that...in one fell swoop, my respect for Skillet as musicians just dropped quite a few points...

I good idea for reaching non believers to Christ......but if they actually did do something exactly like that, wouldn't they do more pop (in terms of the music style) if they wanted to reach the most people? And who quoted that anyway? |

| I don't know what issue it was in, just the first interview I read with them in HM. Would have been around the time of their first album, I suppose. The only reason I remember it is because I thought it was kinda lame and I was surprised they were proud of being posers. But I don't judge their motivations -- to be Christian musicans and spread the gospel. That's more important in the long run than artistic integrity, I suppose. Since I don't listen to music to get saved, though, I lost interest in them around that time. |

When they started in the mid-90s, pop as a musical style wasn't that popular. Post-grunge bands like Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and the like ruled the airwaves. Alternative music was just transitioning to nu metal, and Skillet jumped on that whole post-grunge, post-alternative, light nu metal, pseudo-industrial rock bandwagon. Hey, it worked for them. They were smart kids. |

| They don't strike me as posers. I think they've always liked rock...they were just trying to put their best spin on something popular. I think I'd notice if it was insincere. _________________ "He had discovered Time and Death and God"-Aldous Huxley

| I don't think they're insincere -- I think they really do try to play their brand of music as well as they possibly can. It just wasn't what kind of music they were into at the beginning. Maybe it is now, I dunno. Somebody should ask them in an interview. |

SKILLET is a band I don't listen to. 2. My 20 year old son in college and still at home likes them a lot. _________________ "The 'farce' is strong with Sith Lord Obama-Wan." words of Scourge.

I think that, because their music bears the same spirit of composition, they manage to find an appreciation for many styles and try to put their spin on them. They're still going and with great passion for what they play, so I think they like what they play. _________________ "He had discovered Time and Death and God"-Aldous Huxley
