| So I've decided to pick up a bunch of Pink Floyd, due to my madness for them. I've got Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, and recently Animals. I'm liking Meddle the best, but Animals is coming as a close second. What does everyone else think of Animals? |

| Good choice of albums!
I'd rate them in the same order, though if it wasn't for Echoes, my favourite song by them, I think I'd put Animals above Meddle.
The concept was (obviously I suppose) inspired by Orwell's book, Animal Farm, in which he uses a story of the animals on a farm as a metaphor for Russian Communism. The intent was to split people into 3 groups; Pigs, Dogs, and Sheep rather than to directly refer to the storyline in Animal Farm, and the lyrics are pretty interesting.
Of the three longer tracks Dogs is possibly my favourite, but it's very difficult to choose. I love the shorter song, Pigs on the Wing. At first it doesn't seem very significant next to the other three, but it's one of the best acoustic songs I own, and I like the way the album opens and closes with it. I think it complements the other three really well. _________________

| Animals is probably the Pink Floyd album I play the most. It's great to kick back to and listen to as you are lying in bed at night. _________________

| Animals is my favorite as well. I think Sheep may be my favorite Floyd track period. _________________ "Cat people are different to the extent that they generally are not conformists. How could they be with a cat running their lives?" - Anonymous |

| Great album...
I would rank my Floyd rather oddly I think, but oh well:
1. Meddle 2. A Momentary Lapse of Reason 3. Ummagumma (studio) 4. The Division Bell 5. Animals 6. Ummagumma (live) 8. Dark Side of the Moon 9. Atom Heart Mother 10. More 11. A Saucerful of Secrets 12. The Wall 13. Piper at the Gates of Dawn 14. Obscured by Clouds 15. The Final Cut 16. Wish You Were Here _________________ Dark motions, black eyes, and mournful lust, the wings of solitude ...I'm the hateful raven

| ...mayhaps I'll have to break out my copy and give it a few listens...haven't listened to Animals much, not as much as The Wall, Dark Side Of The Moon, and Momentary Lapse Of Reason. Thing about Pink Floyd, though, is that no matter what of theirs I put on, I always end up sitting in my chair stairing at the wall...kinda like "Pink" at the beginning of the movie, there... ...and the story behind the photo shoot for Animals, involving the giant inflatable pig getting loose, is darn funny... _________________

| The only Floyd I have is Wish You Were Here. I think I bought that one cuz it sounded interesting on Ult's site. I've never listened to it all the way through though. _________________

| Sorry to upset you, Orion, but I'm just now getting into Floyd. I would probably have been chewed out for starting a separate thread on the subject by ye mods, so I'm reviving an older thread. |
