| Frankly, the mp3 player seems a bit dull these days, as I keep returning to the same 4 or 5 albums on it. the "old reliable" stuff just isn't cutting it right now... what seems to be appealing to me right now is good old HEAVY metal, with "atypical" vocalists for the genre....guys that have CHARACTER to their voices (bad Halford wannabes need not be mentioned)....teh stuff that is too "powermetal" to be "thrash", but too "thrash" to be "powermetal", or maybe the band could pass for Gothernberg deathmetal, but the vocalist sings clean, that sort of stuff. So far: Blaze Bayley's latest Brainstorm Dark Empire Nightmare Pyramaze I'm pretty sure that with the tastes a lot of you have, you can help me out here..... _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

| Oh yes, that Communic fits great. Have you checked out Metal Church? They fit your description. Check out Omen, Riot and Pharaoh. _________________ I don't have time for all if it, so I pick my battles. | Never been a fan of Metal Church. Pharoah was "iffy" for me last time I heard them, but I'll give 'em another go. _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

Obviously, I define "character" differently than you. It's entirely possible that what I call "character", you'd call "annoying". It's a matter of personal taste. The vocals I tend to prefer (when it's not a growl or scream) are fuller, throatier voices that tend towards a lower register, with a bit of rawness to them. Blaze and Barlow are sort of exceptions to tat, as they have a slight tendency to sound nasal at times, it just annoys me less because of the lower register they sing in. An accent is OK, as long as it isn't "too much"....
The Metal Church stuff I encountered in the early 90's was "OK" to me back then, but didn't rock my world that much. Their last one, however, wasn't worthy enough to use it as a beer coaster....... _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....

| The first 2 MC albums are the great ones. I don't disagree about the latest album ... boring stuff. Have you guys checked out ANTITHESIS? Great band with a vocalist who doesn't try to sound like Halford or Geoff Tate. |

| How about Hibria? They're not thrash but old school heavy metal and while the singer can wail, he's not as shrill as a lot of Halford wannabes. _________________ "The banner of loud and rebellious music will never die. It just gets older." - GODSWIZARD

| Check out Wolf and Crescent Shield, more Maidenesque but I know you like them. As for Metal Church, I love all the eras but I would think you'd like the Mike Howe years. Check out, Hanging In The Balance. _________________ I don't have time for all if it, so I pick my battles. | New I could count on toho and Rex! GREAT calls on the Communic and Tad Morose! Checked out Jens Carlsson's other bands Persuader and Savage Circus as well, both are GREAT. Persuader has an ever so slight blind guardian feel mixed with Gothenberg stylings, and I really like it. The Savage Circus stuff is pretty much where I wish blind Guardian had gone, direction wise......apparently, they've got a new one due any time now as well. Gave Metal Church another shot, and, yeah....nothing. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to turn in my metal cred at the nearest Metal Police precinct..... Evergrey and Axel Rudi Pell have just never done it for me either. I've owned Antithesis' Dying for Life since it was released, but don't really pull it out that often anymore. Ditto for Jag Panzer and Thane to the Throne. Mercenary is decent, but I prefer Scar Symmetry for that mixed style of stuff. Heavier, with better sense of groove in the music. C.O.C. is a GREAT band, but more a doom/sludge type thing. Goes great right in between Sabbath and The Sword......Similary, i LOVE Testament, especially Low thru The Gathering, but they're not what's gonna scratch this particular itch. Same with the suggestions that are in the vein of Maiden and the Death Angel. i've skipped Symphorce because while I love Andy B. Franck's voice, I've heard Symphorce is the lighter, proggier of the bands he fronts. I will have to give them a decent checking out.... That leaves Brand New Sin, Cirith Ungol, Darkane, Hibria, and Susperia to look into... thanks everyone for all the suggestions! You guys (and gals, if there's any out there I'm not recognizing) all rock! _________________ Obama is no more the Anti-Christ than George Bush is Sauron, sending his armies into Iraq searching for the One Ring.....
