What about cassette tapes? Or 8-track? The first metal albulm in our house was when my brother bought Ozzy Osbourne's Bark at the Moon on 8-track.
I voted for record, although I recently decided to purchase an MP3. |
there's nothing like re-adjusting a record that's stuck! XD |

I think the first & only 8-track I remember, was listening to the Cars "Candy-O". |

| CDs and vinyl. I buy the CD/vinyl. I own the CD/vinyl. It's my hardcopy. It has all the art as well. If I buy the CD and don't like it, I can sell it, trade it, loan it, burn it, use it as a frisbee. Whatever! It's mine. I can make my own MP3s for my iPod. You never own MP3s when you purchase them from iTunes. You many not legally resell them. You many not legally give or loan them to someone else. If you accidentally lose your hardrive, and have not back them up or made a hardcopy, you do not have the right to download them for free again. You do not own anything. You have payed for the right to download that file and transfer it to one MP3 player. That's it. Also, MP3s are condensed files and do not have the same sound quality as a CD or vinyl record. _________________ |

Well stated. Agreed. 2. Point number one above made.......CDs are not going away for a very, very long time, if ever. Some bands will start putting out new albums in MP3 format only. Oh well.......too bad so sad. They just won't get my $$dollar$$. I'll be out $$buying$$ CDs. There will still be CDs around for purchase. There will still be distros and dealers of CDs around. They will get my $$business$$. Not the bands only putting out their music on MP3 (or the next file format 123ZZZZ , or the next file format after that SNDGUD666 ) I've been through this once with records. From vinyl to CD. Now it is from CD to MP3. Been there done that. Guess what?? Vinyl is not going anywhere, is it?? There's more vinyl out there all the time. CDs will be the same way. There are 79 gazillion CDs out there in the world in 2009......the internet is a blessing for the peeps like me who will only $$buy$$ CDs. If you--or me--want CDs only......hop on the internet and look for them. They'll be around.......for longer than I live to $$buy$$ them. 3. Ult said:

Entire post......exactly what I would have written myself. I refuse to download.....2100 cds and counting.....the intangible, invisible music file does not provide anywhere near the same satisfaction as a store bought cd. |

| I have yet to buy an mp3. The only ones I've ever even downloaded were free (like the bonus Rhino Bucket track). _________________ "The banner of loud and rebellious music will never die. It just gets older." - GODSWIZARD

| After reading the posts on this thread, I think you all have me convinced that CD's are better than an MP3. How easy is it to copy your CD's onto the MP3? Is it possible to copy old cassette tapes to MP3? |

| CD's are as simple as inserting your disc into the cd-rom and clicking "rip to computer" (or whatever program you use for mp3's. Cassette tapes, however, will take more doing or may be impossible as I'm not sure what gadgets there are for that sort of thing. If they do exist, they won't come cheap and they certainly won't be very easy to use. _________________ "He had discovered Time and Death and God"-Aldous Huxley

| Record. Bigger album art, organic audio quality, and current price make records the winner fore me. However, CD's are what I primarily listen to. I'd take CD's over mp3's any day. |

| CDs definitely. Does anybody else remember the smell of the Intense Recordsa releases when you took it out of the shrink wrap? I picked up Master's Command last year still sealed, and was thrilled to get that early 1990s smell in the late 2000s . I am building up my vinyl collection now I have a working turntable, which is great for the art and the whole 'experience', but it's still secondary to my CD collection. |

| I far prefer the CD as the sound quality is better, and I love the artwork! I have, however, bought a few MP3s of artists who did not release a physical copy of their album. I bought them from iTunes, and am able to move them around however I want. The copy protection can easily be broken with some free programs online. _________________ "DEJA MOO--The feeling that you've heard this bull before!" |
