Have you ever heard DT???? Razz Just kidding of course. Prog runs through my veins. If you were to cut me, you'd head sounds of PROG flowing forth!

I've listened to 4 Yes albums followed by 2 ELP albums followed by 3 DT albums all back to back to back. Oh yes! Twisted Evil

Which raises the question of "why do you like DT?" Cool

I will give you Awake as a worthy album, merely for "The mirror/Lie"........but between Labrie's billygoat routine, and the "CBS Saturday Morning Special" guitar/keyboard wankery that permeates their material.....yuck.

guitar/keyboard wankery

See... I've been thinking about this lately. I've always loved musicianship. To me, they could play a 20 minute epic song with nothing but trade-off keyboard/guitar solos and I'd be happy as a clam. People always seem to say that they don't like the wankery and I guess I just don't get it.

I can deal with the whole "look what I can do" thing, for a while.....but there comes a point where it just becomes masturbatory self indulgence....and if I want to listen to THAT, i've got an amp and 3 guitars ready to go in the basement.....

I can grant you the first too DT's were listenable. Then it became a; look how great we play, fest. You should get into Fate's Warning if you want to keep it on a more personal level.
Hmm, this is an AILD thread. Horns up to AILD!

complexity + art + soul = Fatez, Pagan's Mind, Twisted into Form, old DT, Zero Hour, Labyrinth etc

complexity - art - soul = most newer DT (as in: post FII), a lot of Yngwie (though I would say it's just unfocused rather than so brash with the tepidness), Vai for the most part *ducks teh stones* (a BUNCH of the 'solo shred' stuff actually)........and Liquid Tension Experiment is an example of something that goes from one to the other from song to freakin' song. rabbit

I won't even grant the first two. I bought Awake to see what the big deal was...I think it's dry. IMO, this band suffers from unimaginative songwriting, crappy vocals and a "can do no wrong" fanbase. They can, trust me. I don't even grant them the label "prog".

But hey, like etomb said, this is an AILD thread and i'm tired of hijacking it. If anyone wants to continue this discussion, post yet another DT thread drunken
