I have to agree. Most ambient music I have heard would have to be listened to while doing 'shrooms.

Not a fan.

Yeah............you are correct Alldat.

I want to listen to ambient *noise* either with the *magic mushrooms* in my body. Twisted Evil

Or:

I want to listen to ambient *noise* with the *magic mushrooms* crammed into my ears. Twisted Evil

Yes i've seen those Aphex Twin videos. The one for 'Come to Daddy' would have to rank as one of the scariest music videos ever....but i loved it.

Ambient is definitely an acquired taste, but once you've got it...smoooooooooooth, baby... Cool

Ambient fills a space in me that nothing else can, and when I need it, it really satisfies. What a Face It's made not so much to be "listened to" as much as "ignored" and allowed to fill in the empty sonic spaces in any given room.

Here are some of my personal favorite ambient albums that I would strongly recommend for those interested:

AMBIENT THEOLOGY - Ambient Theology
APHEX TWIN - Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2
WENDY CARLOS - Sonic Seasonings
dARKSKULL - ...or not to be
dARKSKULL - The Third Rail
DELERIUM - Spheres
DELERIUM - Spheres II
BRIAN ENO - Ambient 1: Music for Airports
BRIAN ENO - Discreet Music
BRIAN ENO - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks
BRIAN ENO - Neroli
BRIAN ENO - The Shutov Assembly
BRIAN ENO/JON HASSELL - Fourth World Volume 1: Possible Musics
EDGAR FROESE - Aqua
PETER GABRIEL - Passion
ISHUR NINKU - Contemplation (our own Rick Mester!)
JEAN MICHEL JARRE - Oxygene
JEAN MICHEL JARRE - Equinoxe
JEAN MICHEL JARRE - Oxygene 7-13
MORTAL - Pura
JOE NASH - Drone
MIKE OLDFIELD - Tubular Bells
MIKE OLDFIELD - Hergest Ridge
TANGERINE DREAM - Zeit
TANGERINE DREAM - Phaedra
TANGERINE DREAM - Rubycon
TANGERINE DREAM - Ricochet
TANGERINE DREAM - Sorcerer
TROGLODYTE DAWN- Kyna (shameless self-promotion, I know Embarassed)
VIRUS - Odd

And, our own ORION CRYSTAL ICE has recorded an ambient piece called "Star Requiem" which he uses/used on his personal website which is an AWESOME bit of ambience! I still have that little gold nugget in my personal files! Very Happy

Just a few to check out... Wink

Would Bells be considered ambient. Maybe I'm a bit confused about what you mean by the term.

It's a fairly broad description that, IMO, encompasses a lot of instrumental, electronic, and techno music at times. My personal favorite type is spacey, ethereal ambience with no beats to speak of, but if I define it that narrowly I lose a lot of music that has some of those qualities, but isn't spot on to fit in the description. So TB probably isn't technically considered ambient per se, but it's close enough to decorate my cookies for me. Smile

Also chek out Harold Budd who has worked with Brian Eno amongs many others over the years.
He also did the very good soundtrack to a movie a couple years ago called 'Mysterious Skin'.

One of my fav Eno ambient cds is 'The Pearl' ....very atmospheric!

Yep, Budd and Eno did some good stuff together, that's true. Their stuff tends to emphasize piano mostly though. But yeah, The Pearl is a good one, as is Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror. Have you heard that one dc?
