5-13-8 Squats

Today is the first day training under the guidence of Phil Harrington so I'm starting a new log to focus on a new start. Here is what I did today...

1.Ultra wide squats to a box 2" below parallel-after warm ups I did 315x3x5. Wasn't heavy but I was shaking a lot at the top and it was really hard to get my hips to "let go" to get down the last couple of inches.

2. Pulldowns-115 x 3 sets of 10 each of close grip wide grip and underhand grip.

3. Ab wheel-5 sets ...

Prompted by Arttie's thread. I think I now have a complete workout for the week. Currently I am on as much weight as I can do for 12 to 15 reps, which will change up later to heavy weights.

The question is, do we push beyond what we think we can handle, or just do the reps. Biblically, Paul would say we go beyond. While not about working out, I think that it could be applied in general to life. I Cor. 9:27 and the verses right before it.

My goal is to eventually become ripped as quickly as possible (right, maybe 3 or 4 years). The last site that I read called it right.
Pull-ups...the forgotten back builder!

Man, since I have abandoned machines (for the time being), I have really started nailing my back with pull-ups of varying types again. Today I did both wide grip and narrow grip and WOW...I can already feel them!

Anyone else still do the old fashioned pull-up rather than lat pull downs? They do a much more comprehensive job of building your back, incorporating your lats, rear delts, rhomboids, biceps, and even middle traps. Love pull-ups.

OK. I got serious about weight training in my freshman year of high school because I joined the football team, and got involved in the lacrosse team later on.

I gained 40 lbs of muscle roughly since freshmen year, but now I'm a rising college sophomore and I have the same physical abilities since my high school sophomore year. I benched 250 lbs sophomore year, and I bench roughly the same, if not less. I don't squat very much, but I remained using 50 lbs dumbells for lunges, since sophomore ...

As of today.........my 36th birthday.........I weigh exactly 280 pounds, according to the shipping scale at work, which has to be accurate because of international transit guidelines.

If you guys will be kind and understanding.........this will really help me, as I am planning on documenting my quest to lose 130 pounds.

This will be no small undertaking as I am literally cutting myself in half! I will be half the person I once was.

I am 5' 6", and I feel that 150 is a healthy weight ...
