Well I don't know wich band started first but it looks like the Minnesota Venia's oldest album for sale was in 2008.

I have a Venia (from Finland) demo sitting on my self that was released in 2004.

Two completely different sounding bands.

Actually Minnesota's Venia released their Find the Truth EP in 2007 and I'm pretty sure the band was founded in 2006.

We started using the name Venia in 2004 and released our first demo the same year and our first official studio album the following year. We made sure that no one else was using the name at the time that we chose it, we wouldn't have taken a name that was already in use. Later in 2004 we were however contacted by a Czech band called Venia that had formed pretty much at the same time as us. It was impossible to say who had come first, but we were all cool about it as we were active in completely different markets. The Czech Venia broke up in 2006 and by then any Google search containing the word Venia had our site appear as first hit. The only way the Minnesota band couldn't have known about us when choosing their name is if they didn't even bother to check. It's also a lot more problematic than with the Czech Venia as we have a pretty large presence on the American market (both our albums have been released through American labels) and it causes a lot of confusion to have two bands with the exact same name active at the same time in the same market.

Not bad, things are quite different compared to when I last posted here. I have a 2.5 year old son that is definitely a handful, I've recently graduated and am looking for a full-time job so unfortunately I don't have as much time and energy to spend on music anymore. I came back a few months ago, I was an Admin at another board and I permanently left there for a few reasons nothing personal against the staff there but I needed to move on I guess......
